wow! thanks for the quick replies...
power accessories aren't a big deal to me, but

are both models available with the 4.0L, manual tranny and 4.10:1 gears on a 2wd?

also are both models available with 4 doors?
thanks...

Edge trim level sports monochromatic color schemes, available in 5 shades. Edge comes in 4x2 and 4x4 editions, but either way it rides at the 4x4 height. A raised power dome hood and mesh-pattern front grille contribute to its hip attitude.

SuperCab buyers can choose Edge Plus, with aluminum wheels, P235/75R15 all-terrain OWL tires, and AM/FM stereo in-dash 6-disc CD player.

Power Equipment Group adds remote keyless entry, and power windows, locks and mirrors. The Edge comes with either a 6-disc in-dash CD player or an MP3 player, depending on the model.

According to the 2003 Ranger brochure, the Edge Plus option adds machined aluminum wheels, white outline all terrain tires and an AM-FM 6-disc in-dash HU. Nothing more. The Edge Plus option, as a package, was only available on the Edge 4x2.

The Edge Plus is not mentioned in the 2004 or 2005 brochures.

it'll probably be a little while before i buy my ranger... but i figure the more i educate myself before i buy, the better off i'll be

right now i'm planning on a:
2001+ edge supercab 4dr, 2wd, 4.0L, undecided on the tranny
and i'm planning on the camburg 6.0 performance kit

any advice on what to go with and/or avoid is appreciated

thanks again for the quick help...

If you're gonna do lots of desert running, I think manuals are the preferred transmission? I could be wrong, but I think they don't overheat as quickly in the sand.

Trent is in Africa now I think, but talk to him about the 6.0 if youre thinking about going with Camburg.

My 2004 SuperCab Edge is a Plus. I have the machine aluminum wheels with the "supposed" AT 235/75/15 tires, the In-Dash MP3/CD 6 disc chaner (mid level 290w Pioneer with the center console subwoofer), power accessories (P/W, P/L, P/M), 4.10 LS rear, and the chrome step bars (factory ford).

As for what was part of the plus package, I have no idea. I bought my truck slightly used (~2000 miles) and I don't have the original window sticker. However, I do have the Ford "Quality Preowned Sticker" that lists the equipment options, and it list my model as an Ford Ranger Edge Plus EC 4x2. The only option listed was the auto tranny. The rest of the "options" were listed under standard equipment for the Edge Plus.

So, your guess is a good as mine.

No mystery. The CD6 was also available as a stand alone option besides being part of the 2WD Edge Plus option.

are you sure? i am almost 100% sure when i configured my truck i choose the Edge Plus package on Fords website. It was the standard power options, 6 disc and aluminum wheels. and maybe some exterior changes like color matching bumpers.

i thought the options were

xl
xlt
edge
edge plus
Fx4
Fx4 level 2

What I'm sure of is what my Ford Ranger brochure from 2003 says:

Color keyed bumpers and fender flares will tell you if you have an edge, also the torsion front suspension and higher ride height compared to an XLT 4x2.
