Dip Sticks

Why do only auto trannys come with a dip stick? It makes it so much easier to fill with fluid than crawl under the truck,take the fill plug out and pump in fluid or use a long hose and funnel. Just wondering why.

Ford manual transmissions and Toyota's are my favorites to do at work because they are so easy with the pumps we have but I could see where it could be a pain in your driveway or garage

Its not that hard to fill the tranny. Also, Toyota Tacoma's and FJ's auto's don't have dipsticks anymore.

my question was why do they put dip sticks on auto but never standards? (none on standards that I seen)

I guess because a manual does not use the oil for any part of making the truck move. It doesn't get burned or anything it's just there to lubricate. There is no need to keep an eye on it unless your leaking.

It's not very practicle. I sure wouldn't want a dipstick around all those gears unless it was very stiff and then it wouldn't go throgh a serpentine dipstick housing. Same for the rear end.

At least you can crawl under your truck to check or change the tranny oil...my truck is too low to just crawl under it, of course thats my fault...but we have a good pit you can walk into and stand under the truck.
