Hey guys

I just rolled over 17,000 miles (27,000kms) on my truck and my brakes seem to need to be replaced. This seems very premature.

They are squeeling up front when I hit the brakes and the pedal kinda drops down further after about 2-3 seconds... I can definatly tell a big difference in stopping power.

I'm really surprised they wore out this quick. When did yours wear out?

 

all most 80k now and still the original brakes

 

My front rotors de-laminated at 37k miles. The pads were still at least 50% but the stupid rotors were falling apart.

I replaced them with a set of cyro-treated powerslots and hawk SUV pads (tirerack). I must say.. braking now is incredible. Simply incredible as compaired to when the truck was new.

im at 35000 miles and have replaced both front and rear twice and had to turn the drums.

 

At 38,000 I replaced my original pads and rotors. Went with new Raybestos rotors and Wagner Thermo-quiet's. I don't drive aggressively and have hauled loads and trailers with my truck. I would think that 17,000 sounds too short. I'm pretty sure there have been threads like this one, and from what I remember it seemed like the average interval (for front brakes) was around 35,000.

 

Yeah, thats too short. Something is wrong. What kinda of pad material is it?

 

If Mazda pulled the same thing Ford did you're right where you should be. My brakes have squealed since day one. The dealership has given me multiple stories but the only consistant one is that the brakes are a new style made of metal. They squeak but produce less brake dust. You can have them replaced with the old style brakes or just deal with it like I do. There's a **** in my dash that if I turn it to the right it makes the brake squeal go away. I think it's labeled volume.....

 

On my 2004, the brakes were done at around 30,000km. But I did a lot of "stop-and-go" driving with that truck. I also had to replace the rear brakes at 60,000km, they had completely seized and the pads fell apart.
So far on my 2007, I am at 50,000km on the original brakes but I think they are due soon. I don't do nearly as much stop-and-go driving since I bought this truck so I'm sure that's why the brakes have lasted so long.

Hey... it's true!!! The **** is the greatest thing... fixes all kinds of problems with my truck....

 

it's a truck..they supposed to make noise! why do you think i've got a sub? to cover up all the rattles, shimmys, shakes, squeeks, broken exhaust, etc. Your truck is a cadillac compare to mine.

 

Im on 60k and im still on my original pads, they have about 1/3 to 1/2 of pad left on them....

 

i brought mine in for a service check last month or so. the fronts are at about half life and the backs are squeeking a fair bit since i forgot to take the parking brake off for about 15 feet. oh yea, my milage is 18,xxx Kms and i do alot of stop/go/city driving.

 

Mine's all highway and just had the 3rd set of rotors and pads, as well as new calipers installed today at 413 000. The previous set on there were last done around 210k I beleive.

My dad's got over 38 000 on his 08 and hasn't had any brake problems.

 

have u actually looked at ur pads? are they low? cuz if u just feel less braking power check ur fluid. also u might have a seized caliper thats making ur pads wear too much. but at 17k thats probably unlikely.

 

^ werd. My brakes felt crappy. Both my calipers were seized.

 

I'm positive his pads are fine... it's probably the same as my truck.. the dealership has looks at my pads no less than 4 times... it's the material...

 

So switch to Ceramic and add some shims.

 

I'm not changing... I'm gonna tough it out and might even get the same pads later... hahaha... I'm just helping this kid figure out what's wrong with his...

 

my dad's Lincoln LS always had a squeak until he changed his brakes and bought cheap pads. Then it stopped.

 

Sounds right, or else this heavy *** BFG's have taken their toll on my brakes.
Braking power does feel diminished.

Ill get them looked at in a few weeks.

My front brakes only lasted 40000km. Now I'm at 68000 and my rotors have developed a pulse(I think they are warped), and the self adjusters in the back are seized. Rear shoes are still ok though. O I put on ford replacement pads at 40k

 

I changed my rotors and pads at about 30k miles. The pads had a ton of life left but the rotors were shot to ****.

 

I would physically take a look at your pads to see if they are actually worn out. Most brakes will squeek eventually, but that doesnt mean they need to be replaced. So get a flashlight and look through your wheel at the actual brake pad and see how worn down it is. And check your fluid!
