as long as you use it, and use it alot... wouldn't an f-150 tow your car just fine? some people just want to have the biggest most obnoxious vehicle around just to try and be cool... I think that most of them are just over compensating for lacking in other departments. save money on the tow truck and spend more on the track car. my opinion.

I love diesels. But I dont know what you guys are saying. But If you towed a bunch of sh t I would would rather have a psd instead of a poopy v10. In GMs case the 8.1 is a beast and That is a good engine but you get terrible millage towing compared to a duramax. That is why I would want a diesel.

i wont lie. im the douche who just wants a diesel because they are bad ***. i wouldn't go as far as a toneau and a wing, but it would be a mall crawler, be tuned, have an exhaust and be unbelievably obnoxious, and id love every minute of it.
this would be me.

Every kid with a fixed up diesel tries to race me in my GT. I just play with them. I run low 13s. There are VERY few that run better than that.

As far is owning a diesel.... Never. I don't own a farm or haul anything. I love your ranger ty! Keep it. Then get a mustang for fun and speed. Way more fun!

lol if i ever do get a rwd v8 car it'll be a ws6

but with a diesel, it'll tow the cars to the track and get better milage doing it. thats why i wont get a lesser truck for that. i've seen what towing is like with those, and its pretty bad. my dads 08 sierra 2500 has the gas motor, and pulls just fine, but the diesel would be so much better

I wouldn't want to tow anything over 5-6k with a gas, half ton truck. It can be done, but not as well or efficient.

A diesel tows so much better...like there is nothing even back there. And you have the power whenever you need it. And that is important living in the mile high city with the Rocky Mountains and the elevation going above 10k. At that elevation, you're gas vehicle will lose 40% of its power...a turbo vehicle will lose nothing.

Plus gas mileage will be much better with a diesel. My buddy towed a trailer full of equipment (roughly 5k) along with 7 adults in the truck down to South Padre Island this spring break. He used a 2004 Chevy 3/4 ton Burban with the 6.0 (gas). It did ok...handled the job, but also got 8mpg doing it. And there wasn't much power when you needed it.

A diesel is badass man...would be great to have one.

But you just dumped so much money into your Ranger. Do you really want to throw that all away? Unless you still have all the stock stuff, and you sell your mods

Alright, you all want my opinion? I just bought my 96 F250 a week ago. Here's the thing, I looked at PSD's, looked at the 460's, hell I looked at a couple 351's. I opted to go with the 460 because it will do everything I need it to and then some. I don't want the PSD's because of the maintenance. Would I love a PSD, HELL YEAH!!!! I love them. But, regular maintenance on em, sorry I'm not in a place to be dumping a minimum of $130 every oil and filter change. Not to mention, if my injectors go bad, it's expensive. My glowplugs go bad, it's expensive. If my turbo craps out, it's expensive.... vs. my 460. My fuel pump on my rear tank went out last night. Pissed me off. But, the good news, I can replace it for $130, and I'll be golden. Oil change, if I don't do it myself, $35... everything is cheaper

The thing is, Ty I get exactly what you're saying bud. I'm getting my old Bronco back, and dedicating it soley to a trail rig, so I'm going to be towing it. I'm looking at getting myself a car in the near future to drag race, tow it to the track and be golden. The 460 in my truck will get the job done just as well as the PSD's and the Cummins will at half to 2/3's the maintenance cost.

Keep in mind the 460's will last FOREVER so 170K is not a big deal

They're already putting a chitton of power out. Something like 245 horse, and 400 lb ft tq. They're a freakin torque monster of a motor

They're pretty easy to do stuff to, I'm working on actually converting mine all over to MSD ignition, so I should see some more response out of it. Just like everything, you gotta research how to go about it.

I actually went and looked at trucks today.

I want to downsize into something newer, larger on the inside, smaller on the outside, and more reliable then my Dodge.

So, when I went to this sale going on at a local dealership, I test drove an 04 Colorado, and an 06 Dakota. The Colorado was real nice. Ex cab, topper, studded snow tires, and regular tires, trailer brakes. But that 5 cylinder sounded annoying, and the inside was a little too cramped.

That Dakota, though. Man. It had the 4.7 liter HO V8, crew cab, 4X4, low miles, power EVERYTHING. It had some get up and go, and it was VERY quiet. Only thing I didn't like about it was it has a shorter bed, but it's only about a foot shorter then what I got now, but it has way more room on the inside.

Talking to my bank on Monday to find out if I can do it. If I can, SWEET! If not, I'll be saving up to go the Chuck route, and get a bigger truck, LOL! I am hoping I can, though.

and also your 460 might try and keep up, but a 8 miles to the gallon i would rather drive a diesel thats getting 15 towin and above that unloaded lets see your 460 keep up with those numbers. it would be a perfect world if i could get a cummins in an f250 or 350

Diesels CAN be fast. They CAN also be a pooper. DEPENDS on tuning and everything.
