leave it tp UPS to break it or bend it
rant on.....
ordered a class 3 hitch for my truck a week ago. it was a long hard wait for ups ground shipping. bla i hate waiting.
ugh first day back after long weekend so it was not the best of days in the heavy equipment field. but i knew i had a nice heavy package waiting for me to come home and install.
get home and i see the box meh few tears etc, usual ups manhandling the boxes like trash. i open the box up and start taking all the tape off the receiver. its just tossed in the box no packing of any sort. yea its heavy steel but its ups they can break or bend anything. go figure my brand new receiver has the right frame mounting arm bent. i got my square out and figured i would take pics and just complain to Etrailer.com what ups is doing to there product.
it was bent 2" freaking inches. heh my day went from bad to worse. i ain't paying freaking ups to bend my crap up for me.....i wanna do it i was not going to send it back for the reason of probably take 3 weeks to turn a round and get back to me... ( i'm a welder too it was nothing a bench vice and brute force a torch and violence can't fix) after some beating on my bumper, that the previous owner bent up bad rolling a motorcycle trailer i got the receiver up there. im happy and everything...still pissed at ups i hope my actron CP9150 i ordered from NJ dont come bent or broken.....then ill wanna go postal on UPS
hey if you work for ups im sorry but theres just some dumb fawkin employees there. i worked in shipping and receiving about 6 years at a mid sized wholesale custom hand painted tile shop......all boxes left packed to the boss lady's approval and still customer got it broken and by the time it came back to us it was dust.... $6 grand order it did not happen all the time but iit was not uncommon. each piece is wrapped in bundles with cardboard in between in boxes made to the specs of what we were shipping. some left double boxed and still a few pieces broken.
heres the pics,
also heres my recovery point now when i go wheeling,
need to finish my wiring it got dark so i packed up.

etrailer boxed it. im not blaming ups or anyone for bad packing. yet its amazes me that they as a shipper can break and bend stuff.
hah one day i was at the GF's house and watched the ups guy try and balance 2 boxes on his hand like a waiter would do. of course the smaller box that fell was her fathers replacement insulin pump that cost 4 grand. i watched him from the time he pulled up to the point he handed me the boxes......when he droped the box he looked right at me like "oh crap!, he seen me"
what ever just ranting

At my last job I ran a shipping and recieving department at a robotic wiring company and I can't even count how many times boxes came in destroyed by UPS. I had the UPS complaint phone number memorized. It was bad when I knew the person on the other side before she said her name. It doesn't matter how well packed something is UPS (and FedEx as well) will destroy it.

mark, hey no hard feelings. there are the good and bad at every company. and yes its not that bad like you said. ive seen some good ones too.
well it tok a week to ship from St. Charles, Missouri. truck/ground, probly was on the bottom, dropped, crushed, etc i dont know but yea that a good chunk of steel to bend. its not all that long either to have a leverage effect to bend it with ease. i know i clamped that arm in the vice here and used the rest for the hitch and leverage and it took a little force to get it back. hard to tell in pics but its bent just before the 1/4" steel is rounded over for the mounting flange.

Just think lifting over 5,000 boxes a day and picking up a heavy box or what not the last thing you want to do is take your time and put it on the ground like it should be done correctly most just toss or throw it on the ground and then build a wall of say 200 boxes on top of it now think how much weight is sitting on that.

I used to work at UPS (for 4 years BLAH!)
Anywho, this is what I tell almost everyone... DONT put a fragile lable on ANYTHING. Even if it is...that is just a big red sign saying "kick me"
Alot of the people at UPS could care less...as stated above, they handle thousands of boxes with in 5-7 hours, there are deadlines to meet, and any short cut that can be taken, will be taken.

i agree, about a year and half ago i ordered a pair of rear window stuts for the vette, and they threw it in a tube, and taped up both ends with no packing material, you can guess my surprise when i got it, and all that was in it was nothing at all
