Vented go on the front, solids typically on the rear.

However, you might be talking about drilled or slotted rotors? Which would make more sense to me. They are made to dissipate heat faster and stop better due to not heating up so much.

ok. so which ebcs would be best? ultimax, 3GD sport rotors, or turbo groove rotors? and are the yellowstuff pads the best ebc makes?

Upgraded brakes always help with bigger/heavier wheel/tire combos. And yellow makes them stop faster.

WRONG.

They are actually worse on the heat front. Less metal = less stuff to transfer heat too = more heat on the metal. Drilled rotors are strictly for looks. Even Porsche admits that.

Slotted rotors are the only "performance rotor" that does anything. And the slots are not made to dissipate heat, but to swipe the pad clean under hard braking.

I used to autocross. Believe me, I know brakes.

But slotted rotors+mud=heat and death to a pad.

Go solid. And only solid.

And all those who tell me "No! I put drilled rotors on my car and I stop on a dime!"

Please, explain how a rotor does anything better for stopping. You caliper is still squeezing at the same rate it was before. Good pads, will make you stop better, so it's the pads that are helping you, not the rotors. Put regular pads on the rotors then come see me.

Also, you cannot cut a slotted/cross drilled rotor. FTML.

I use EBC slotted rotors and thier Ultimax pads. Wow! What an improvement over stock. Next time I will be using their green stuff pads.

My stock brakes suck anyways. However, when I just did my brakes this time, I bought all the cheap stuff, and the brake dust is horrible.

well then there is something else wrong. are the rear brakes adjusted correctly? does the parking brake pedal go to the floor? does the pedal feel mushy?

now i have access to a lift, every service i pull the rear wheels (i pull em all actually) and see if the rear brakes are corroded with dust, clean the rust off the drums and check for adjustment.

Everything's fine, they were just done like maybe a month or so ago. I just had my parking brake replaced last week.

It stops fine, but the last few days my ABS light has been coming on and giving me mushy stops at very low speeds, or making it pull to the left, so I need to look into that.

pulling to a particlualr side could mean a caliper piston is sticking. the ABS could be a lot of things from a bad sensor or wiring, tone ring, bad wheel cylinders or abs pump. get the codes scanned ASAP.

you are semi correct. the holes and slots allow the gases to escape from the rotor so that they arent pushed against the pad and moving it away from the rotor so the caliper stays clamped better. I have stock solid rotors on my probe then i switched to drilled and slotted on all 4 corners and i stopped 20 feet shorter from 60. I didnt change the pads because they were pretty new. that was just from a rotor change. I know its a car not a truck but still my point proven the drilled and slotted rotors or just slitted rotors are better than a standard solid rotor

Then that would be the slotted kicking in. If you noticed, I said slooted are a performance rotor and would give better braking.

I used to race autocross and have tried every brake combo on my mk3 possible.

Stock calipers with;

A: hawk pads. pepboys performance rotors.. not a bad combo.

b: cheap slotted/cross drilled rotors and ebc green stuff. ehh bout hawk level.

c: mintex redbox and stock rotors. better then both. TONS of dust.

(changed to SS lines here)

d: ebc yellows with stock rotors. Better, less dust.

e: hawk pads, slotted only rotors. Best combo, light dust nice grip.

f: brembo 12.3" big brake kit. cream my pants I can stop on a dime.

Wouldnt having drilled or slotted rotors be like a cheese grader, much more ripping going on which would make the pads grab way harder?

slotted, yes. Cleans the pad, giving a better grip.

cross drilled = useless.

I just emagine it being like a chease grader, compaird to rubbing a chease on a plate, its gunna have alot more friction on the grader.

Just a warning.

The EBC Yellows make a pretty decent amount of brake dust compared to standard pads. They also don't like to stop hard when they are cold, once they are nice and warm they stop good, but when they are cold they can be scary under full braking. I've had a couple "holy****Imgonnacrash" moments with mine lol. Doing 75mph over a kinda big overpass with a redlight waiting for me at the bottom and cold pads was pretty scary. Luckily it was late at night and there weren't too many cars on the road, otherwise I probably would have rearended someone waiting at the light. They were warm after that to say the least.

I love that 'creamed my pants' line. lol. thats awesome!

I can confirm...slotted are better performers. I went from freshly turned stock rotors w/ mid grade/OEM equivilent Raybestos pads(w/ less than 2k on both items) to StopTech slotted rotors and PosiQuiet pads. What a difference!! The bed-in period was SOOOOOO much fun!! Slowed my 35's with steel wheels down faster. Which is exactly what I was after. Soon, I'll swap in Explorer rear brakes to my Fx4 31spline axle and also swap in a F250 master cyl(almost double the piston size) to bump it up even more. I need a master sometime anyway. And one of my wheel cyls is malfunctioning.

Almost any performance pad puts out alot of brake dust.

Ever drive down the street, and look at that beautiful BMW next to you and wonder Why they **** can't they atleast clean the rims?

Chances are they probably did yesterday.\

mintex redbox puts out the most horrendous amount of dust though.
