New Muffler

Ok, before you say it i tried a search and couldn't come up with a consistent answer to my question. I am looking to buy just a muffler for my v6 4.0 99 supercab xlt. What kind of muffler will give it a good sound, but not too loud. I was looking at a glasspack but in the searches one person will say it sounds ricey and another says it has a deep mellow tone. Is a Gibson a good choice? Cost isn't really an issue, i was also looking at a dynomax, does anyone have just the muffler and know what it sounds like? The headers, and all the pipes will be still be stock.

I'd go with a Borla Pro XS, they sound very nice. And Magnaflow isn't too shabby either.

I want somebody to try the Hooker Aero muffler. They are cheap and it looks like they are built well, but I have no idea what they sound like. Seems like everybody runs flowmaster, magnaflow, or Gibson.

Flowmaster will give you a deep rumble in all rpms, Magnaflow will give you a louder tuned sound mostly in high rpms. Those 2 are the only ones iv heard up close. If you want more performance go Magnaflow but if you just want a deep rumble get Flowmaster.

Someone needs to make a site that shows all types of vehicles of different engine types with all types of different exhaust systems that have great sounding wave samples of each. This would help so many people look for the type of exhaust sound they are looking for specifically to that vehicle.

I am a web designer but would not have the time to do all the research or recording... But if some of you guys would be willing to put site like this together contact me. I think it would help a lot of people in many ways! contact: chuck ((((( at ))))) majesticsky.com

I have a 22" glass pack. It sounds good. Has a loud, fairly deep rumble(better with an intake). I like it and get compliments on it. Since you are looking you aren't looking for loud try MagnaFlow, they have a good sound.

i have the hooker aero chamber mufflers on my mustang, i know its not a great comparison bieng a v8 but..

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XK9s4HXvc6Y

its a 3inch system with an X pipe and it reasonates like a beaotch! so i know 4 cly are typically reasonate prone, wouldent suggest it on a 4banger.. but it may just be because of the large pipes.. i dunno.. great quality very solid, but very heavy.... umm.. ya!
