they will probally do the same thing that chevy did with the S-10, discontinue the ranger then bring in another truck with new options and engines.
Won't be the same. Some say when the Ranger ends there will be a year gap and possibly in '10 they will bring back the Ford 100, which was before the Ranger. Some say they will go unibody like the Honda full-size pickup. Personally I like the Ranger that is offered in South America, but from other forums, I've heard that the underpinings (I forget the technical term) don't conform to U.S. Safety Standards -- meaning doesn't perform exceptionally well in crashes. 2) there would need to be a redesign since the steering wheel is on the right sides of the vehicle. Too much money to reinvent the wheel. Cheaper to move on -- evidently. Just read in Truckblog.com that Toyota Tundra is being cut in production. Gee with gas at an all-time high you would think they would keep the Ranger as long as possible because there is no other entry level pickup. In my mind, this is the worst time to get rid of the Ranger. The economy will pick-up and gas prices will fall. Right now since the dollar is so low in trading overseas is one of the reasons we are having the recession. Even annalysts say it could last less than 6 months or go two years. Ford should wait it out a little bit.

jeeps are unibody and they lift them all the time. unibody is not a bad thing.
ive heard a 100 different things about the ranger, they will take it away then make it again.
best and most reliable thing i have heard is they are closing the MN plant and moving the assembly line to the Detroit Truck plant where they can still run them for assembly with less overhead, thus less cost.

when I was in Iraq I saw 4 door ford rangers. I talked to one of the guys driving one and he said it was leased from Kuate. It was left side drive and a 6 foot bed and 4 full size doors. I checked the VIN but it didnt cross to anything. This was in 04. If any body knows any body there now see if they can get a pic of one.
