Nothing wrong with having 4x4 and going prerunner/long travel (LT). There's others on here that are 4x4 and setup for long travel. If you do wind up out in PHX having 4x4 plus long travel could let you have the best of both worlds to a degree. Not only could you play in the dunes out in western AZ and SE Cali, but you could also play on trails that would require 4x4. Search ORR for DesertSpive. He has photos of him playing out in dunes and out in Moab playing on the rocks. If you stay out in OH, honestly LT seems a tad out of place.
On that note, why sell your truck when you already have a platform of known vehicle history, not to mention payments on it still? There might be more 'options' for doing LT setups on a 2wd. But then again, when you start sinking 8-20k+ into a long travel system it doesn't really matter what ya got, 2wd or 4wd, because by the time you're done spending a modest down payment on a house for your truck to be setup it's pretty much cost ya the same to setup either a 2wd or 4x4 vehicle.

Your best bet would be to take a good look at a Ranger Trailhead edition for an example, it retained 4x4 type of suspension yet was still 2 wheel drive.
Your major parts to swap would most likely be the spindles, trans, and driveshaft.
The trailhead version was basically a 4 wheel drive truck minus the 4x4 running gear. It used the torsion bar type suspension, (IFS), like a 4x4 truck.
There's a Ranger Trailhead on eBay now,
