Cheap 4-point harnesses?

Does anyone know where I can get some cheap 4-point or 3-point harnesses? I'm looking for a pair of them to go with some new seats from Jeg's. They don't need to be super-fancy, just reliable enough to keep me and my passenger in the seats in the case of a rollover.

I would go quality on those. my 5 point harnesses were expensive but they are so nice and I know they will last for a long time...

make sure you mount them the right way or they could do alot more harm then good in a rollover.

What exactly is the right way to do it? I plan on running a horizontal bar behind the seats attached to the roll cage, and I will weld tabs to that bar so I can attach the harness there, and then I'll probably weld some tabs to the floor on each side of the seat to bolt the side straps to. Is there anything else I'd need to know about it?

Gil, what brand do you have and how much did they cost? I may be able to get a hook-up on harnesses through a friend of mine, but I don't even know what brands are good or bad.

A few years back, I bought my 5pt harnesses for my chevy from Summit for like $65 each. RJS is the brand...I believe they are around $75 or so now. You can eliminate the crotch belt if needed...to make it 4pt.

Some people mount the shoulder harness at the floor (the wrong way) which can crush your spine in a roll over.

That's a good diagram! I know better than to mount the shoulder straps at the floor, but I didn't know the proper angles for mounting the straps. I also found some harnesses on Jegs that I didn't see before for about $65 each, so I will likely go with those once I save up some more money.

I have Crow 5 point harnesses with 3 inch belts. they were something like 180 a peice or something. Its been a while.

anywho, just get belts that have been certified and you will be safe.

You could always get racecar take outs. I got a free harness, 5 point, because in racecars they can only be used for a certain length of time even if they are still good.

Hm, I may have to see what I can come up with. Any idea where I could find some place with race take-outs?

Sorry I did'nt catch this sooner.

I've been (off and on) a seating engineer for 7.5 yrs now.

Kyle, the way you describe mounting to the roll bar is fine. Just keep the shoulder belt length as short as is reasonably possible. The looser they are the more likely you'll slide out in a violent roll. If thats a possiblity I'd suggest a little strap be sewn between the shoulder straps and as close to the back of the seat as is possible. (just copy the sew pattern and thread count that you see on a reg seat belt. Oh and use a heavy duty type of thread)

So I should sew the straps together? I think the seats I am getting only have one hole in the back of the seat that both shoulder straps would go through... would it still be beneficial to sew that strap in?

Yes I'll be getting two. Shoot me a PM with how much you're looking to get for them... I'm really short on cash after a couple recent purchases.

The vehicle won't be going very fast with a 1.3L motor, 6.5:1 low range, and 5.13 axles! I'm more concerned with keeping passengers inside the vehicle in the event of a rollover.
