4.0 or 2.3?
i bought a 2007 fx4 off road ranger which only has 5400 miles since new. loaded up and ordered. i dont drive it much as i want because of gas. i was thinking of selling it and buying a 08 or 09 single cab 2.3 manual ranger. am i nuts to do this?. i like the 4.0 power even though my brother-in-laws tocoma will smoke me. he took me for a ride in his 05 trd sport. pretty nice truck. has lots of power. whats the highest price i could get for my 07 off road?.

19-20k probably
i wouldnt do it if it was me. this is what makes no sense from your thread...
1. new ranger with 5400 (not even broke in)
2. dont drive if for gas reasons
3. tacoma will smoke your ranger (yet worried about gas prices)
4. you want a 2.3l but dont like the fact that a toy beat you
5. i would imagine you owe more than you will get out of your ranger but i could be wrong.
so wth that stated id keep the 4.0 it will break in more and you should see 17-18mpg as a normal driver

When I need the power I have plenty and sometimes use it. My truck can and has pulled it's own weight and more. If my truck was just used around town I would want the 2.3L but mine is used in all kind of conditions. My X-cab and 4x4 are a nice thing to have in the winter conditions I have to deal with.
BTW, the 24mpg is not a typo, I'm a hypermiler.

He hyper miles and gets 24mpg. I drive like a bat out of Hades and get 28mpg. I'm sure I get where I'm going faster even though I get better millage. The 2.3 is the way to go if you worry about millage. personally it's not my biggest concern, which is why I drive like I do. I could prolly do better than 30mpg if I slowed down abit.
How 'bout this, I'll trade you motors, 'cause I'd love to have the 4.0!
