Icon5 60/40 conversion questions....

so ive got a std. cab with those annoying 60/40 seats in it and i wanna convert em to bucket seats but i dont wanna have to buy them. Can i just remove the fabric on the driver side seat and cut out the extra foam (in the center where a center console would go) and re-stich the rest of the fabric under the seat? thats the only thing i oculd come up with lol. any advice?

Theres a how-to mod for that check that out. I have a question tho. . . does your seat have that arm rest thing in the middle cuz mine doesnt which is why i cant do the mod.

Nope, mine doesnt have the arm rest, just the annoying little piece in the middle where a center console would go, i just wanna cut it off and make my seats bucket seats so i can fit a couple subwoofers between them :)

No in fact its one of the more popular mods you can do to a Ranger It was the first thing I did . It takes about 30-1hr depending on how quality you want it to look . all you need is a dremel tool saw zall or something to cut out the metal seat pan .

BTW off topic here but how does your truck drive on the 31 does it act sluggish on take off ? im curious cause its the same specs as mine and I want to lift mine on 31s later in the year .

If you have the armrest its easier to do. . . all you really do is follow the how-to thread, but i have the seat that has the xtra part even on the backrest, i can cut it out but i dont know how hard it would be to reupholster the seat it wouldnt be as easy cuz it would have a piece folded over on the drivers side and the passenger wouldnt. i guess i could always just add seat covers tho lol. Let me know how that turns out for you tho im still debating whether or not to do it.

really all you would need to do is also cut out that portion on the seat upwards also and then tuck it behind the seat and put a seat cover over it that would solve the stitching problem. Come over tomorrow and we'll do this!

Id just save from some real bucket seats. check your local junk yards for some expo seats or if youre lucky you might find some ranger buckets.

Guys....he's has an XL ranger....with the flat, board-like vinyl 60/40. There is no armrest, and the seat literally looks like a bench. Know how "all" ranger 60/40's look like buckets? well...his....aren't. There's actual padding and vinyl between the two "backrests", rather than nothing there and a console.

I have never seen the 60/40 to 40/40 mod done to those seats. I bought my brother '02 EDGE cloth 60/40 for his regualar cab 01 at the junkyard. $75.

Best pic i found so far of the original poster's seats....

Whoever told you that.....is completely wrong. Doing the 60/40 mod is taking out that 20 that's useless. The mounting points are still there in their factory location...infact you don't even touch them doing the mod.

Look at the pic Shane posted, its not as easy to do the mod to those seats as it is the seats that I have.

i realize that but thats not gonna stop me from doing it if Lance is up for it! I have done the 60/40 conversion before on my old seats so a little extra cutting is all thats required for these ones.

im suprised you guys like taking that out ... i guess if you have a singlecab you want more room for the subs, but in my case i have my subs in the back of the xcab so having that middle seat comes in handy every once in a while if i got 2 passengers.

but see the problem lies where the stickshift falls when you have that other passenger in there. I had this problem many times when i would have more than one person as a passenger. And his truck is already short on room so this was a awesome fix.
