OK, I'm new here. I ordered a 2007 Ranger XLT, 3.0, M5OD, regular cab, 7' bed, 2WD, black. Waiting 6 weeks for delivery plus plant shutdown for vacation.

Anyway, the title of this thread interested me. Too bad the #1 post was edited to the point of deletion.

I haven't discussed this with the salesman, but I was thinking the break-in period would be sump'tin like...

1st 500 miles, vary the speed and keep the RPMs under 3,500; change the oil and keep the RPMs under 4,500 for the next 500 miles.

And now for the type of oil question... ¿Dino or Synth Blend? Typically, I'm not a full synthetic oil kind a guy.

First off, Welcome to R-F! I think the manual says pretty much dont romp on it for the first 500 miles or so- but if you really think about it, what do we all do when test driving a vehicle Oh and I use the Motorcraft brand synthetic blend (ford's oil) but a lot of people on here will tell you synthetic is the way to go, or w/e.

Thanks 'bwester04' for the reply. I wonder what the manual recommends for the type of oil.

I run 5w30, I think thats what is recommended to use in the 3.0L's. Now if you have to have engine work done while in the warranty period, the dealership *could* be picky and blame the oil you use as the cause of the problem, and if you use their brand (Motorcraft) you could possibly save yourself hassle. But that's just my understanding..

'bwester04', I've been a Castrol guy since the early '70s. It comes from dirt biking experience. I hear what you are saying about brands of oil, and it does make good sense to use Motorcraft. Now I swear by the manufacturer's recommended oil filter; Motorcraft oil filters for all my Ford products. What I was wondering, if Ford recommended dino, synth-blend or full synthetic oil for the Ranger's; specifically the 3.0.
