The firefighter essentials training is cake compared to specialized training. Most of the essentials class is common sense and to see if you have the will to do what is required. When you start getting into HazMat Ops, Brush Fire, and Vehicle Rescue training it gets a lil tricky. I've got hundreds of hours of training and enough certs to fill a small landfill. I know alot of guys that have the same training as I have and would rather get buckets of kitty litter than get the Hurst/Lukas tools out on mva's. Training is training my friend. Run a couple fatal mva's and a few multiple alarm structures then tell us how tough it is. Kudos on the training though. It is only the tip of the iceberg my friend.

ummmmmm i think you are mistaken....there is no such thing as firefighter 3 & 4............and if you just got a job as a firefighter...you by no way can have your basic training, and firefighter 1 & 2 done.......please get a clue!

In Pa it's call Essentials A, B, C, and D. I have my Firefighter I on top of all the essentials classes. All that means is more advanced firefighter training and the ability to get a city(paid) job. You can get your FFII but it's really not neccessary unless you work at an Army/Naval Depot. I got most of my certs by the time I was 18 since I was an emancipated adult and able to take any training an 18 y/o could take.

we had to be in full gear and on air during basic and during ff 1 & 2 class.....i am going to take a first responder class in a few months after college......

the coolest thing i did was take a class at a local paid department....they have a fire school every august with about 20 different classes through the month......i took a class call "dance with the devil".....they light a room on fire and get it to almost flash point then you have to put it out......there were 4 different teams of 4......there was a paid team that couldn't get it out.......it was kinda scary cause we had to go in and help them...they almost got trapped.......it started to flash over them.........

in indiana you have mandatory training, then basic training, then the firefighter 1 & 2 classes....then you go to fire officer 1 & then 2, then on to fire trainer 1 & 2..........you have to take them in that order........here you have to be a firefighter 1 & 2 to go on to fire officer training.......

...i like the new federal law that you can get everything to transfer to any state of the union....
