My squeal was different from yours. mine happened while it started cranking, not after like yours
mine was like a spin up squawk like one of my pulleys was frozen.
Its hard to say but, i did end up replacing my tensioner pulley in the springtime because it looked too wobbly for my liking.

I have never changed mine but I know it sits fairly low on the tranny. I'm not sure about the auto since Alon changed his out but it didn't take him long.

Listened to the vid, what I'm hearing may be the same noise, but not as bad as yours. I'll have to pay more attention next time.

Just a thought. Try disconnecting the power to the A/C clutch before you start it the next time with the conditions that make that noise. I don't know why but that's what came to mind when I heard the noise on your video. I may be way off base but it should be a quick check.

and if i let the truck warm up. and then start it again it doesnt do it. only after the motor completely cools down.
Maybe your truck has a cold, that sure sounds like a sneeze to me!!

Why not just remove the belt? That would eliminate all the accessories and the tensioner. It does sound like the starter to me.

My 4.0 has been making the same sound for at least a year.I have a buddy thats a ford tech that says its the idler pully. If u figure it out I would really like to know. It would suck to have it screw up when your out in the boonies and not be able to start it.

mine does it also. i assumed it was the belt since it does it only when starting up cold.

as for the whole starting the truck when starting and looking like an idiot with the loud grinding, 08s from canada have a safety device installed. once the truck is running, it doesn't allow it to be started a second time. thus preveting the grinding of the starter and flywheel.

Correction: I didnt take into account that it has been warmer these days and thats why it didnt do the noise anymore. But now that its getting cold again... well its back.

Make sure to keep us posted on this, if you fix it, or it goes away, my 02 makes a similar noise. I thought that it might be a tensioner pully, so I bought one, now I'm just waiting for some warmer weather to put it on.
