Stupid question
Not really sure how to ask this properly, but I know when I had my '02 edge, to convert it to 4x4 all i would of had to do was basically weld in a mount tab and then install all the other 4x4 stuff (i.e trans, **** like that). I sold my Ranger about a year and a half ago and regret it. I am hoping to get another one when I come back from this deployment in may. It seems it will be a lot easier to find a 2x4 here in florida with the 4.0l then it is to find a 4x4 in the price range I want, so I am tossing around the idea to convert it. What are the year range and I guess "package" ( not sure is that is the right word) I need to look for to make the conversion as easy as possible. Thank you in advance for any help you have. Oh and sorry for any grammatical errors, typed this out really quick.

Yeah I would agree if you're just going to get a 2wd and convert it to a 4x4, I mean you're already going to be going through a lot of work to do it. Might as well doing the SAS while it's all apart.

any money you save by buying a 4.0L 4x2 over a 4.0L 4x4 would be be negated by the cost of the conversion.
i do not agree with the previous posters statements that if you convert to 4x4 you might as well SAS. SAS is not for everyone and the average Ranger owner does not need a SFA. not only that but they are less than ideal for a DD. i can think of 2 members off the top of my head that had 2WD Edges that converted to 4x4 and they are perfectly happy.

0RangerEdge2 is converted to 4x4. We did the swap in three days in my garage. It takes a bit of mechanical inclination and tools (we used a junkyard 4x4 trans but ended up rebuilding his 2wd trans into a 4x4 trans) but it was well worth it. Especially when i see his truck fly at the sand dunes. If i found the truck i wanted (edge package of course, you dont want to convert a 2wd coil truck) that was 2wd i wouldnt hesitate to buy it and swap it

If you have the ability to do front suspension maintenance than you can do the swap

Sorry it has taken so long to get back to your comments, I am guessing from the way you are talking that the edge is the only ones that have the two of the three tabs that need to be used to mount the front diff and what not. I am fairly handy when it comes to working on stuff, so that is not the part that scares me about this, well minus changing the output shafts on the automatic trans (44r somethings right??) other then that not to intimidated. I do agree about the SAS thing, for what I want this to do, the IFS I think will work perfectly. Four wheel drive trucks are mad hard to find in Florida, well at least in my experience for the panhandle area. Thanks again, and keep your eyes open if you live in the panhandle area around may!!!!! Thanks again
