Tapping into thrid brake light
I have a cap on my truck and would like to find out where I can tap into the third brake light wiring in order to power the brake light on the cap.
Has anyone done this? If so where did you grab the power at? I guess I didn't really want to pull directly from the light itself and then have a wire hanging between the cap and rear of cab. I thought maybe there was a place to tap into and then run the wiring underneath somewhere.
Thanks for any help.

yeah i would just tap in from the trailer lights or the rear lights, or before the plug for the rear lights/trailer lights, just put those in with some but in connectors or quick connects, and get those terminals that you can plug into each other in case you want to take the cap off, i'm not sure if the color changes through out the years but it use to be black with a pink stripe so try looking for that, or use a test prob

The wire color code for the 2007~2011 CHMSL is violet/white. It definitely runs through the interior.
You could also check the 8-pin connector near the rear of the driver side frame rail to see if the VT/WH is there. Unlike most late model Rangers (except STX), the Mazda variant had separate brake and turn signal lights but I do not know if the frame rail harness was common between the two.

That's why I was saying find the wire in the cab. On my truck there were 3 wires going to the tail lights. One was a reverse light, obviously not the right one. And one was running lights. The other was brake/turn. Only way to get a "brake only" is to tap into that third brake light wire. I would take Bob's advice any day tho.
