Thinkin about getting a new Ranger...

Hey, I was just kinda curious on what you guys thought about this truck...
http://maine.craigslist.org/cto/927149804.html

I'm thinking about selling mine. I can't afford mine now that I'm in school. I'm going to offer the girl that owns this one like $5500 I think. I need your advice. And how much would you give for mine? 4.0 SOHC with like 95k. Brand new tires and the works.

Looks good. I don't like the interior color but that's just me.

Mines the same interior, I know the girl that's selling it. I've got to find out what engine is in it before too much happens. It's already got dual exhaust and it sounds really good.

5,500 sounds about right. 6,000 definitely is to high for that truck with the mileage it has on it. I think if you clean your truck and polish your wheels you could probably get 7,500 for it that would leave you with around 2 grand to put in the bank or whatever.

Why would you sell your truck for a older one with more miles?

Call me blonde but I'm confused... why get rid of yours?? Do you still owe on it?? Just doesn't seem to me like the change is worth it since they are going to be so close in price... I mean, if I dumped mine for a '99 it'd make sense but this doesn't seem like it's worth it.

Because when I got this truck, I had a Dakota before. I didn't have the dakota long enought to have paid it down when I got this one. I wouldve kept that truck, but the engine was dying, the transmission was going, and my t-case was having problems. Not to mention I needed tires. So I owed money on that, so with the loan for this one, I had to pay off that truck. Now that I'm in school, I can't afford my $260/month payment. And instead of repossession, I would try and get as much as I owe on it back. I think I owe a little over 8k after the Dakota stuff on there. I love this truck, and I dont want to sell it, but it's in my grandfather's name because he took the loan out for me, and I don't want to mess him up credit-wise, you know?

I'm just curious 'cause you're not going to make enough money on your truck to pay off much more than the cost of the new truck so it seems like you should just look into either affording the truck you have or getting something like half the price.... still doesn't seem like it's going to help your situation...

Oh...well, I'm just looking into it. Hopefully I can get close to what I owe if I were to sell mine. I'm not 100% sure on the numbers, but I'll look into it more. I had paid 5000 for my dakota, and my payment was $126.80, so even if I had to take out a little more to finish paying off mine, I think it'd be worth it. I just can't find a job that will work around my school schedule and pay decent money like what I was making when I bought the truck. I wasn't planning on going back to school, so that kinda screwed me I think.

I think you need to talk to your grandpa and see what he says since it is in his name.

I would pay this one off, or as close to it as possible. It's private party, and I would take out a personal loan for the amount of the truck + what I owe. Doing it as a personal loan, the bank would have no idea that I own the truck, so I wouldn't have to have full coverage, I'd keep only liability which would drop my yearly payments by almost $600. The monthly payment of the truck wouldn't be more than $160, which means I'd be saving $100 a month. But monthly now I pay $320 (truck, insurance), so I think that I'd only be paying about ~$200. This saves me a lot of money now. My numbers aren't exact, but they're close.

Well you're not in college and trying to live off $150/week at most haha, which is why I'm concerned. I'm just sick of having to borrow money to get by, you know? I'm going to try to keep this truck, but I'm just exploring my options, seeing what you guys thought of that truck as a replacement.

Well, it's pretty hard to get a job when I'm in school 5 days a week. Leaves weekends open. My job that I have now, I work what I can. I work 5am-10am Thurs and Fri, and 7-3 Sat and Sun. I'd work more, but that's all that they can give me, trust me I've tried to get more hours. And all jobs that I can get during the week are like McDonalds and all that, there's really not a whole lot around me...ever been to Maine? haha Woods and water is about it, until you go a good 1 to 1 1/2 hours south of me.

Yeah, I've been looking around. I just don't know if I could take the time away from homework and all that to get another job. But believe me, the last thing I want is to get rid of this one. I love this truck. I'm not doing anything right off, I gotta talk it over with my dad too. My gramp doesn't care, just wants me to talk to him. This sucks, I'm just always stressed out about it, but I'll get through it somehow. Just kinda curious what you guys had to say.

Ya know, I've been debating selling mine, I owe $6200 still on it, and I need to get to school. The only downside is my truck has depreciated so much in the 19 months I've owned it I couldn't get what I need out of it.

I vote keep the truck man, you pay less than I pay for mine, I pay $258/mo for the payment, and another $270/mo for insurance for mine.

The only plus I see in the other truck is the 4.0L OHV over the 4.0L SOHC, but thats really more of a wash than anything.

I'd sit down and re-crunch numbers... how much do you owe? how much do you think you can get for selling? what will you pay for the new one?

nows the best time to call the bank and try to re-negotiate the loan you have... that's an option too... sorry... still doesn't seem to add up
