time for a new truck

I won't be getting rid of the mazda, just getting a new daily driver. The tranny and motor need more money put in them than im willing to spend. I just assume get a v8 and d44 in it. So, thats whats gunna happen. Goin truck shoppin tomorrow to find a v8 daily driver/tow rig. It's gunna sit for a while beforei can afford to start tering into it. It'll be a good winter project.
But heres pics from it's last day as a daily driver...I'll miss drivin him everyday.

Yea im pretty excited. The hardest part is gunna be finding the right explorer with the motor and tranny together still and in good shape.
Well i went truck shopping today. Last stop was a 2001 dakota quad cab with the 4.7 v8 in it. It's in excellent cosmetic condition with 130,000 on it.
The dealer told me he just got it yesterday so it wasnt cleaned or worked on yet. He told me it ran rough so i took it down the road and stopped in a parking lot and it almost died. The check engine light was on so when we got back i asked him if i could use his scan tool and i pulled SEVEN CODES!!!!! It has a misfire on cyl 2. Coolant stays cool too long. Engine speed sensor error. O2 sensor. injector circuit error. Something with a ground. Bunch of sensor stuff. The guy said he would get his mechanic to fix everything. But before i buy it im gunna take it to my mechanic and he and i will look over it and get on ShopKey or Identifix and find out how to properly fix each code if there is still some on there.

If you get a Dodge everyone on here will give you **** for ever.

You should look into a newer Ranger or any F-150 or F-250. Even a fullsize Chevy.

If you get a Dodge you will never live it down.

Who gives a fluck what we think? If he gets a Dodge, hey, he has one more vehicle than I do. I'd be jealous if he bought a Daewoo.

lol I love the guys who are big on certain makes of vehicles. Look man, I'm in college, work part time, and if it's affordable and can tow the mazda it'll work for me. Just like steven said, it doesnt matter what anyone else thinks. If i could afford a newer full size i would do it in a heart beat, but i dont want to finance a vehicle and have 0 spending money at the end of the month. After all, im not getting rid of my current truck. Just dropping the insurance and tags and finding a 5.0 for it and its gunna be strictly my toy, so i want something affordable so that i can still work on the mazda and get it going again.

Good luck with the Dodge, hope they get everything fixed, I would rather have a Dodge over a Chevy, just my preference tho...

Regardless of the fact it was a Dodge, if I went to a dealership and looks at a vehicle that pulled 7 codes and was running that bad it would turn me off to it.

Even if they fix it those things tend to repeat themselves.

I would look at something that hasn't been beat up.

Quarter ton truck towing a quarter ton truck = fail. Even if it does have a v8 in it.

I have nothing against Chevy or Dodge. It just sounds like you're obtaining another vehicle that is in need of work. Doesn't sound like your solving any problems to me. I'd just drop the money into your Ranger, and make it more reliable.

Of course, I shouldn't be talking. After making payments on the Ranger for the last 6 months, I could have dumped a lot of money into my Bronco and made it perfect. But thats ok, I enjoy having the Ranger.

honestly i wouldnt buy a truck that had that many codes on it. i would go look for something else. also look up the tow rating for that truck then figure out the weight of a trailer and the mazda i bet it doesnt tow enough

It'll tow the mazda. I was thinking more of a dolley (if that would work with 33's) anyways. And it wasnt running that bad. it cranked and ran ok. just got rough when i stopped. and if it pulled codes all relating to that, it could probably be fixed with a simple tune up and an injector. Im bringin it to my mechanic before i buy it anyway. If he tells me it aint worth it, then i wont get it. But we'll thoroughly look over it. I'm not gunna find a tip top shape vehicle with the budget ive set and this one was in much better shape than others we looked at. But it's not even a guarantee. Just my main interest right now.

yea. I been researchin a little this weekend nd it seems the main problem with these trucks is dodge made some cheap *** sensors and you have to replace just about all of them before its said and done. which isnt bad because sensors are cheaper than some other things. lol

I dunno, I'd be wary of buying something with all those snafus. There are tons of used trucks around....I looked around for a few months and ended up buying my '03 Ranger 2 1/2 hours away after looking at about 10-15 of them with various issues...take your time, be patient. If you have a bad gut feeling from the beginning you will never be happy with it.

Couldn't have said it any better.

If you have to convince yourself to buy a vehicle or someone else has to then you don't want it. It should be buy at first sight.

Yea, i know about being patient, It took me two months to find the mazda. I didnt end up getting the dodge. He fixed everything with the check engine light but then the ac only worked on high and one of the rear power windows was broke. And once i got to the shop with it, fan clutch, rack and pinion, coolant seemed oily for some reason and 2 exhaust leaks. not happenin. But now im looking at a durango. Goin to test drive it when i leave school and if i like it ill take it the shop later this week and have a good look at it.

Ended up with a 5.2 durango. Fan clutch is bad but i couldnt beat the price for the condition of the vehicle. 115000 miles. Mechanic told me it was super clean and in super great mechanical shape. and it came with a three month warranty so i might be able to get the fan clutch fixed.
