Vehicle safety

The Ford Ranger is listed in the top 16 highest death rate vehicles:
http://www.iihs.org/sr/pdfs/sr4204.pdf

On another site (which I am trying to find again) It listed the the three most crucial safety problems with the Ford Ranger. These are what it said:

1. Lack of side curtain airbags and lack door structure integedy in the case of a side collision.
2. Inadequate frame strength/design in frontal/glancing impact at 40mph or above.
3. On supercab models: Improperly lached doors "give out" in an event of a rollover.

I knew Ford Rangers weren't exactly the highest rated vehicles safety wise but are they really worse than a toyota corrola?
