Stay with 255/70/16. Don't worry about the spare.
You might want to consider getting some All-Terrain tires that are "snow rated", that way you can use them all year round. BFG All Terrains are one example... they have the snowflake symbol on the sidewall of the tire, so they are legal in Quebec as snow tires.

Get the BFG AT with the snowflake, I heard they arent the best on ice but awesome in snow. And stick with 255 or even go bigger like 265/75R16.

Off Topic: Brightred which part of ottawa you at?

Most sizes of the BFG A/T have that Severe Service Rating (Snowflake in the mountain), there are a few that do not. Make sure you are getting the ones that have the SSR.

I work in bourget, like 15 minutes away, and live in Gloucester. Are there any trails in the Carlsbad area? Bourget there is the Larose Forest and a side trail with lots of water that are fun but new is always better!

i wouldn't worry too much about the spare tire. if you have the money go for it but even if you do use the spare tire, it's only for a short period of time and won't really affext your milage or speedo.

Well, it's only a problem if you have to use it on the rear and if you have an Limited Slip differential.. But you can just do like Seb_L said and put the spare on the front and move a good tire to the back (just don't run in 4x4 with the spare)
if you are really concerned about it you could just pick up a cheap 255 and use it as a spare.

Seb_L: I don't know of many trails around here..I've looked around a bit, but it seems to be mostly private land. I've been through Larose forest a couple of times, but I've heard that it's off-limits to motorized vehicles now, so I don't go there anymore.

Dont get BFG A/Ts get general grabber at2 they have ths symbole on the so they are legal. they are only 109 a tire for a 255/70/16 compared to a BFG $172 a tire. The Grabbers will save you $252 dollars when you buy 4 or will save you $315 when you buy 5 so you have a matching spare.

The grabbers are pretty much the same thing as the BFG just a much better price.

Its a car tire. If you want dedicated snow tires go with some x ice latitude.
Bfg all terrains are awesome in the snow. You can run them all year. And you can probably find better prices than what was quoted above, especially if you go up to 265s, as they are the stock size for chevy full size trucks and lots of places keep em in stock.

You can save yourself $200 this week at Canadian Tire. Go buy The Goodyear Wrangler Territories. They have the snowflake symbol and are $200 off for a set of 4. I'm sure your tire size is still cheaper then my 31's, so you may even save more. You'll need a rain cheque if you buy them in Ottawa, it's sold out. LOL.............or sorry, there MAY be 2 left......dumb retards @ CT

Kinda too late, as he stated he ALREADY bought them.......LOL

****Anyway,

hey $690 doesn't sound too bad for some new meats.................just too bad Quebec has that stupid winter tire law. Sure everyone will have winter tires on in the winter, but those QC plates whipping by me in snow storms as if I'm standing still, well, I like seeing them in the ditch with the rubber up.......

That dumb law is just a money grab. No one is safe on that side of the river.........LOL Or this side for that matter!!!!!!
