I just purchased a Ranger and it needs a toolbox really bad and I dont know what kind to get so can you guys post some pictures of toolboxes so I know what I'm lookin for

 

I've had three toolboxes on my truck.....one i'll leave out because it was just downright UGLY!

Delta Low-profile Economy series box. Very good looking, i actually miss it sometimes. Very sleek looking as well. Paid $220 on sale at Schucks/Kragen/Checker's. Delta low-rpo boxes for compacts have a double notch to clear other trucks fender wells. Ranger's don't really need the second notch.


Even looks good on lowered trucks too!


Delta Champion Compact Deep box. Bought it because the low profile wouldn't fit with the new headache rack. Paid $350(retail) at a local farm goods store....was a special order Had to throw it on the back of a semi along with their other shipment of Delta boxes. Lucked out there. If I didn't luck out, i'd be forking out like $130 freight! It's the tall style, and deep....the bottom is just like the low-pro, has double notches.

 

couple questions as Im in the market as well. How much does it kill your visibility with the deep box?

Allso any other pics of the headace rack? looks like a pro-tech?

 

The deep box won't block visibility......but the tall box will. My tall box is set back as you can see in the pic below, because of the headache rack. I look in the rear view, and can see the box and the road behind me. But if I sit up staighter, more erect if you will(lol), I can see the top of the tailgate. Doesn't hinder at all. I suppose if the box was right up against the front of the bed, you'd be able to see your tail gate in the rear view.

Yes sir...that is a Pro Tech. Picked it up in Vancouver from the manufacturer. Stay tuned...I havn't had a post on alot of recent mods.

 

I have a nice Kobalt tool box that I really like. They come in two sizes, large and medium. I bought the medium one at Lowe's for around $150, I don't remember exactly. The tool box is very handy for carting around misc stuff...doesn't block my vision at all. Here's a pic......

 

I have the non black one that shane posted, the low profile... It's made by better built and I love it. Lots of room yet still looks good! Holds my air tanks and tools just fine.

It happens to be one of those random craigslist finds for $40 though. It open up jut fine, shut just fine and locked.

 

I have a Delta Pro single lid crossover, it's pretty deep and it has no notches in it, full storage space. It has the buttons on the side so you're not leaning over your truck all the time.

i like the look of the lo-pro (what i had), but the one above with the side button to open are soooo much nicer than having to jump in the bed all the time...but i dealt with it

 

Hey could you post a picture of how you have your air tank set up in there? I just had that idea this mornin to put the stuff for train horns in a tool box.
Did you drill holes for the lines or what?

 

herers my delta nothing fancy, it fits and holds my crap. best part is i picked it up for free. from another ranger guy (440volt) so it was set to go just bolted it in.





and my dads is in there 2 his is wider but not as deep and has the gull wing hatches.



watch craigs list as well I have seen countless ranger boxes for les then $50 usually.

 

Yah it may be a day or so... I'm headin home right now to put my coils in and find out how I'm gonna be filling my tank now a days lol

But I drilled holes in the toolbox and in the bed and ran then under the truck to where they needed to go...

 

mine is a bit different, i have a plastic between the rails box for my truck but wanted the bed freed up for other things, didnt really need a lot of space, just a small tool kit, jumper cables, tow strap, small floor jack and small extras. i only have one child so i tooksome measurements and built a plywood box to go behind the drivers seat in the supercab. ive had it in there for 3 years now and still like it. yes it is secured down.

 

Mine. Haven't had it for real long but so far I'm happy with it. I don't like the ones that sit on the bedsides so I got one of these instead.

 

Well guys this is my set up , very rare infact I think I'm the only one who has done this . The only reason I would even recomend this if you have to carry alot of stuff that you dont want to worry about , as it is near impossible to break into ...

This is a Knnack SITE SAFE it is designed from the ground up with security in mind , Built from 16 gauge cold rolled stee fully arc welded for strenght , its secured via 2 #5 bullet proof master locks enclosed inside square tubing to keep from cutting and the lid has a peice of 1/4 plate hook that fits inside the loop and when the lock is closed it sandwiches keeping it from opening ...
Its Deminsions are 24x24x48 to give you an idea , on my last trip to our office in Houston I had all my regulare off road gear , large duffle bag , sleeping bag , Backpack with all my tac Gear , M-4 in a case , scatergun in a case and a 4 pistol lock box in there with room to spare ...

Here is the first veiw from the rear of the truck as you can see I had to notch the box to clear the fenders took about 2 hours to cut and reweld everything ... you can sorta see the lock mechinism in this one .


Here is a side veiw of it as you can see its pretty big , and does cut into the veiw , but not su much that its dangerous to drive .

Heres the skinny on it .
I paid 249.99 at Home depot , It says rigid on it as that is there house brand but its made by Knaack so it is there site safe .

What I did to make it fit , knocked the pedistall feet off so it would sit 4 inches lower in the bed .
Notched two relifes in front 8x8x4 if I remeber correct , and one on the driver side for the little hump at front of bed .
Painted it black as it matches better than bright orange .
MAde a bracket for the sides and back out of 2x2 1/4 inch angle Iron .

Does it work
Yes while in Houston I watched a crack head try and break into it with a screw driver after 2 mins of jacking with it security busted him , I got to watch from the 7th floor of our building it was funny .

Cons
Its heavy , 150 + #s , you put alot of gear in there I figure loaded it comes in close to 400#s worth of tools and guns when I go somewhere on a trip , it cuts into your veiw and makes your blind spot bigger .

All in all I like it though ....

I know right , you normally dont see these in rangers so I guess im the first but you see alot of em now in the full size trucks especailly welders and other contractors.

I got it for peace of mind , You would be hard pressed to break into it .
Uhh lets see all my tools that I used to use at work (2 craftsman bags full and a hardcase mechanics set ) shovel , axe , sledge , some cribidge bords for traction , floor jack , 2 10' 3/8 chains , 1 15' 5/16 chain , 2 tow straps , 75' 3/8 linesman wire rope for recovery operations , 2 cumalongs , 1 boomer , PPE gear , Tac gear , and normally the
M4 or 500 Tactical . small duffle bag of extra clothes boots , and when I go wheeling I throw in the chain saw ...

And thers room for more , but the main reason I have it is for security like I said I watched a crackhead try and break into it for 2-3 mins for I even thaught to call security when I went to our office in houston once .

 

Thank you. I was in the store the other day measuring different boxes an then runnin out to the truck to eyeball the measurements lol.

I would be cautions of the ProTech boxes though. One of our work trucks has a protech flatbed with 5 of thier boxes. ALL OF THEM leak water.

 

i saw that contractors box and thought "good greif, i could put every tool i own in there, and then some" no one could get into that without a fight.

 

I'd also add....that my current box, the tall deep one, is one of the shorter tall boxes. I'm referring to bedside to top of the box. Delta has a really good website and shows all the measurements(so do alot of other manufacturers). I based my buy solely on the website dimentions.

Alot of my buddy have ProTech toolboxes and don't seem to have any problems. If ProTech only made a compact box that was deep, i'd be all over it. But.....protech's are sooo dang expensive. Your flatbed has those boxes that mount below the bed right? that's why they leak......the way the doors open....

The delta box I was lookin at an measuring looked to stick up 7" above the bedrail.

The flatbed is on a duamax dually. We have one box on each side mounted below the bed. But then a box ontop the bed on each side running legnth wise. They leak to. Course they are opened an closed all the time every day though.

All in all its a nice bed an boxes but he wishes he woulda had Highway Products make his bed. Lil more spendy but a lil cleaner look.

I got a WeatherGuard toolbox. It wasnt cheap, but buying Weatherguard is like buying Snap-On. It fits great, over to one side of the bed, so I can stick a 6 foot ladder on the side of it, or my dirtbike next to it (and still close the tailgate!)

 

that's cute! haha. i see what you mean with the 6' ladder though, very nice.
