starters, I dunno if this is the correct section but I guess it will do haha.

Well, basically I am getting tired of my mr2. I am demoding it as we speak and going to sell it in a few months. So, I want to buy a cheap toy for the time being, then when I sell the 2, I am just going to put that money into savings. But anyways, I have located 2 projects that have my interest. Both are RBV's lol. No pics in this thread, sorry guys.

Also, I plan on bringing home the trucks next weekend. Anyways on with the choices.


1. 93 ranger reg cab, long bed, 4cylinder, auto, that has been partially bagged. C-notched, and 4 linked and the rear is currently bagged. The front has been lowered buts not air ride. Has a 5 gal tank, train horns and 2 compressers. Runs good and works fine. It has roof damage though and needs some body work.

2. 93 explorer (boxy) 4x4, 4.0 auto, with 4inch lift kit, 3inch body, 34's and a few other goodies. It has a new replacement trans and motor recently. Body is ruff but it will make a good trail truck. The only downside I can see, is it has 3.73's. The 4drs is a huge plus for me.


as far as costs, the expy is cheaper by 500 dollars (asking, planned on talking him down tomorrow when I take a look at it).

I am really torn on which one to choose.. I would like the 4dr, but dunno if I really want another 4x4. Ive always wanted a lowered ranger, but the fact its more expensive and the expy is badass really makes it hard haha .Which one would you buy?

 

Explorer IMO...4cyl auto in that ranger would ruin the deal for me

 

Yes but he could save a few bucks at the pump with that since he already has a 4x4.

Either would be fun.

If the ranger had a manual tranny, then that would be my choice. (auto to manual swap?)

And yeah, you already have a 4x4.

id find a stock older regular cab ranger 93-97ish, lower it, bullits, clean it and just enjoy the mpg if you must spend the money on another vehicle that is

 

He makes a good point, but at the same time that exploder sounds pretty badass. I love gen1 exploders. It is on the top of the list when I am ready for a trail beater.

 

I wouldn't buy either...too old. Nothing but headaches.

 

i'd go with the ranger. swap to manual and turbo that thing.

 

Since you have a 4x4 and gas prices being the way they are I would say look into doing a lowered project Ranger. The 93 sounds nice, but a little old. I would go for a 98-03 regular cab 4 cylinder manual and do a 4/5 drop on mustang rims.

You can have mine for $4,000 lol, it would make a good candidate.

At this point if I was me I would t buy either. I'd stick all the cash in savings and hunt for a house or spend it on something like vacation or something on the house if you already have one.

You may find that cash to be handy later. Of if you owe on other things pay those bills off.

 

I still have the stock 7.5 inch so I would probably swap that back in before I sold it, the 8.8 would then immediately be put out of it's misery by being parted out.

If it got lowered and put on mustang wheels with low profiles the truck wouldn't need a 31-spline 8.8 4.10 LS anyway. An open 7.5 w/ 3.73s would be perfect.

 

i personally like the expo as a trail tuck better, off roading is fun so that why i would go with that, not a big fan of lowered trucks (just not my thing)

 

That' logic makes no sense in this case. Age is only a factor for someone who feels the need to have something brand new or close too it. I had a 95 ranger that was a great truck with almost 300k miles. Sold it to another member on here and its still going strong. The only problem with older vehicles it getting it up to par on maintenance and what not. If its a toy then it's not that big of a deal or if he wants something he can really beat on offroad. You wouldn't want to take a 20k truck and destroy it offroad would you?

 

Buy uranium stocks with the cash and buy a new Ferrari in about ten years.

 

Well if he's gonna use it to beat it, good luck finding parts. Sounds like a big waste of time and money to me.

These trucks are sooo common, there is like 10-15 at our junkyard

 

Of course you would think that. Your truck is bone stock. For the record parts are easy to come by.....

 

The closest boneyard by me is at least a half hour drive away. Then if you're lucky...you'll find the parts you need....sorry guys but I've got better things to do with my time than detroying my Ranger plowing thur fields and woods. But hey, if you get your kicks by getting your Ranger all muddy...well then have fun !!

 

well yes i do enjoy getting my tuck muddy, its all fun and games until someone spins a bearing FYI me lol, but then again i live in the mountains so i pretty much had to beat the **** out of just to drive, sunck so much money and wasted hours that thing, still worth it, its just what ever you like to and want to, and there are tons of fist generation explores at the junkyards by me, the only thing thats hard to come by is a matching set of rims.

 

Well there's lots to be said for having a show truck too. Mine's not a show truck, but I like to keep it looking nice and clean....that's just me.
