I've got a dodge stratus 2.0l and running straight exhaust, at the back it splits into dual. Runs 2.25" pipe and at idle it has a deep rumble with no raspiness throughout the rpm range.
It's all how you tune the exhaust.
Wish I had a good camera to record the sound. All I have is ****ty phone videos.

yea man it is still a ricer size motor(nothing rong with that i had one and loved it). its a little bigger so it in turn will be a little deeper but not much.... look into buying a aftermarket resonator off an exhaust and hope that will help... good luck man i know the sound your talking about and it is NO BRUENO

I beg to differ with the four banger theory.

yea man honestly i would see how it sounds as a straight pipe(no muffler at all) and if it sounds ok then you can leave it if not put the stock back on... at a good muffler shop the can make a new flange about like a foot back from the muffeler(cat side of muffler) that way you can go under and put on and take off.... just my opinion. i did that in my civic for awhile till i wasnt poor and able to buy an catback

it is a straight exhaust.... it will sound deeper.... it has alot to go with valves and alot of stuff.... your four banger in you stratus will sound different than the ranger. thats like comparing a mustang GT and a f150 and both have straight through... totally different sound
I did this with my buddys 4 banger stang. Threw a cherry bomb turbo muffler, not the crappy glass pack, and it has a deep tone to it.
Every foot of exhaust on a straight pipe can make a difference in the sound. I can run it cut out from under my car half way back and it sounds loud and raspy, but just 4 more feet of pipe and bends changes the tone so much its night and day difference.

its also in the size of the muffler and in flowmaster its self the series as well. i bet if you through on a 50 series or even an 80 series it would change it. th OG 40's are pretty loud and the 44's are even louder. gotta find what you want first and then reserch it. i know you tube has a crap ton of vids of exhaust. thats abuot as close as trying it before ya buy it

I couldnt imagine it being that loud unless you had it at a higher RPM...My exhaust is loud and I dont draw attention from cops like that. Just like you turn down loud systems when near cops, try to keep your foot off the gas too. If you have a manual, shift at like 2k instead of 3k.

You will never get a deep sound out of a ranger unless you put a v8 in it. I don't care what muffler it is, it is still going to sound like a 4 cylinder or 6 cylinder, some always sound like it and others only sound like it in the upper RPM. If you don't want to sound like a civic, go back to stock.
