Help!! Need some rocker panel advice!

Hi there... just purchased an "as is" 03 Ranger edge 4x4. Bodie's in incredible shape for an 03 but I've found one issue with the rocker panels. There's rectangular cut outs underneath.... 2 per side, looks like maybe where step sides used to be. My question to those who might know... since they look factory cut out is there any caps or covers of any kind for these holes or do I require a messy patch up or worse all new rockers?? If it matters I'm not interested in installing step sides.... which would work but I dont like them.

Thanks for the help and advice!

They're factory. No idea why. But they're fine how they are. Mud will get in there and will need to be cleaned out if you ever go through mud. Not a big deal.

I'm sure you could get a strip of aluminum or something and screw it on to cover the openings.

Thanks for the quick reply.. sounds like it will be ok for inspection then. Where I am (pei, canada) inspections are very picky on rocker panels!
