When did the OHC mod first start appearing? Always been curious about that.

Cheers,

Explorer Over Head Console. It's the one that has the digital thermometer and compass, and a spot for a garage door opener. It o mounts on the ceiling of the truck above the rear view mirror.

95+ Explorers and Moutaineers, and now SportTrac's. 95-97 consoles have a blue display, and 98+ have a green display

2 diffrent styles also One has a sunroof button and one has the garage door.

Each one hooks up diffrent I believe

Hook it up using this site

U could find one on ebay with everything Console bracket temp sensor and wiring harness for 50shipped maybe less

Just be sure it hasthe wiring harness with atleast 6 inches of wire

If you find one on ebay without the wiring and sensor PASTFINDER probbaly can hook you up wth some

Yea I was looking around on eBay. Just trying to get a clue what a decent price was. No need to over pay. Thanks.

Don't get it without the temp sensor. You would have to go find one at a junk yard, and if you're gonna do that, might as well get the whole thing from the junkyard.

It says in the auction

Then again....some yards think their stuff is golden.....i've been quoted $100 for a complete ohc w/ sensor, bracket, and wiring to underthe fire wall. And even then, you don't know if it works or not.

And if partfinder can't hook you up, the temp sensor is located behind the bumper, under the grille, above the driver side frame rail...oh....and there's two different styles....

And....there's two different shades of gray. The 01, possibly 00 as well, explorer gray is just like the 01 ranger gray....

I figured it had been around since at least 2000 or so. It is a great mod, and fairly easy to do if you know a bit about wiring. I pulled mine out of a 99 Explorer. Didn't pay anywhere near $100 though. I got the OHC, mounting bracket, complete OHC harness, temp sensor, OEM temp sensor wires, and 2 12V accessory plugs for $40. It helps when you know everyone who works at the wreckers though.
