Yeah, seriously. How ugly is your state's plate? I treally hurts you that bad to have a 2nd plate on..
And I thought Mass was a 1 plate state. Maybe that was long ago. Seems to me once upon a time you had to pay extra for the 2nd plate in Mass. I know the bracket on the front bumper was a 'mandatory extra' on both new truck I've purchased. It's even an item on the sticker, listed as $0!

NJ is a two plate state.
In 1976 they had a commerative 200 year celebration plate you could buy for the front of your vehicle.
The actual plate had to be underneath the 1776-1976 plate.
Does not seem to be a big deal on a truck. (street scene grills excluded)
On a Corvette though it means almost changing the front bumper.
If you bought your truck new in the state you live and it came with a front plate mount, your state requires a front plate.
It is a no charge option put only on Ford trucks destined to states requiring it.

Hey guys, just an intro...
CT requires two. When they will run you plate, it will indicate how many plates were issued to you. If you only were issued one or it comes back as one being lost/stolen/destroyed, you can get away with one. *Usually* they don't care unless they need something to look for. If they care, they will ask where it is and and tell you to do something about it.

usergroups?
eventhough texas is a 2-plate state they will rarely pull you over for it (unless they just want an excuse), but if you're speeding or something they will add it to the list. the state police are the worst about it. they will walk around your vehicle and ticket you for anything they can find.

minnesota requires 2 plates, but since they pull up behind you to pull you over, they check the tags on the rear plate. unless you have a suspicious vehicle, they won't look for the front plate. ( i was stoped twice with my '94 ranger which didn't have front plates.) but now, as i'm older, i have the plate on the front of my current ranger.
