Ranger Swap
I'm really thinking hard on this cause I want a 4x4...
I stopped yesterday at a car lot to look at this red 4x4 Ranger. The guy says he'll give me 3,000 for my truck (or use as 3000 down) and sell me his for 3900. His is a 2000 4x4 with 164,000 miles. I drove it and it feels kinda loose in the front end, but maybe that's normal. Otherwise it looks, feels, and sounds good. My truck is 4x2 with 119,000 miles on it, runs very good, but I have rust and other body work that needs to be done.
Here's some pictures. Mine is the white one sitting beside it, but I didn't think to make a comparison photo. What do you think, is this a decent swap?

LMAO!!! No DUFFUS i think you read it wrong!!! but yeah i wouldnt either!! your still basically buyin the other for $6900....when it comes to dealers, they can put anything they want on trade in value to make it look good but at the end of it all your still paying what they wanted to sell it for anyways...lol!!

Good choice. Definitely not a good deal for you. 4x4 is not worth an extra $3900 and the mileage you lose.

Save your money, your truck is worth $3000+ do what you have to and save another $2500 cash. For $5500 you can get a low mileage Ranger by going through Craigslist every couple of days. Until then study Craigslist for at least a month, widen your search pattern, mine was 300 miles. I watched Craigslist for a month and looked at several Rangers and went to local auto fairs where the vehicles are all being sold by owners.
I got lucky because the truck I found was 200 miles away, in a town really hit hard by the economy, meaning "not a lot of cash around". Also don't be afraid to look at salvage Rangers. I specifically looked at salvage knowing if I found the right truck I could save $2-3k and still get a really good truck, if the damage wasn't sever and it was restored by someone who knew what they were doing.
Good luck
