what do you think this truck is worth?

I am looking for a beater and found this...I would assume it was his first vehicle and beat on..we all know how that is The #1 cyl being fould concerns me kind of because my friend car did the same thing and it turned out to be bad rings and not a spark plug. It also has a plow mount on it. He said he never bought a plow for it but it was on there when he bought it.

I have a 92 Ranger,2.9l 4x4 5 speed for sale. I got back from Iraq in August, and havent been able to seel it yet, so here goes.

Bads:
A little rust around the wheel wells and the bottoms of the doors.
Brakes need blead. I put new brakes on last year before I deployed.
The engine is fould out in the #1 cylinder, but still fires up and runs.
The exhaust ends right at the back of the mufflers, so its a little noisy.
Before I got it, the guy who had it was hit in the back passengers corner of the bed. This does not hurt saftey or drive-ability, and the bed is not damaged on the inside.

Goods:
Sunroof
Working JVC cd player and off brand speakers included.
Wires run for a CB radio with 2 antennas (only antennas included)
Tires are 31x10.5r15 with less that 2k miles on them. The mold marks are still on the sides and in between the 2 center treads.
Starts up first turn every time.
New Battery.
4x4 works (lockouts)

I wouldn't give more than $300 for it and that's pushing it. My '86 that doesn't run is in a lot better condition and I only paid $100 for it.

I was going to go look at a XJ and that ran and drove but ran rought and it sold for $350...missed out on it by 1 day.

4wd around here seems to add value. He is asking $850 which I think is way too much.......But was not sure what to offer if it is not a rusty POS if I look at it.

the frame and drive train is solid from what he says

When I get a beater I am not going to trash it. Im going to use it as a wood hauler/use it for stuff around the yard and also a wheeling rig.

What ever I get I would fix it up somewhat and give it new hopefully reliable life

its not a bad little truck. 4x4 manual hubs and 31s. its a TTB set up which does extremely well off road, and i would say that it probably would out wheel a good number of the newer ifs rangers on this site! so before everyone goes and bashes it, think about the positives.

i agree.. not a bad truck.. i'd love to find one of these or even a 94-95 that the cab has been crushed or something.. unfortunately money and space arent on my side right now!!

offer him like 500 and see what he says.. sounds like its been sitting a while for sale with no takers..so im sure the guy would give a deal.

My max offer would be $550. I would start with $400, though. I've had a lot worse, lol.

$400 max...Spark plugs cost a couple bucks...He would have replaced it if that was for sure the problem...I say that you stress the engine being bad when haggling.....Basically you are buying a truck that needs engine work, body work, and interior work....with some big tires....About the equivilent of buying an 85 caprice with 300K miles and 22"wheels.

yup grab a spark plug, some tools and 500 bucks, jew the guy down to 400-450. tell him you only brought 450 with you.. and if he's not willing to part with it even at 500 bucks then walk away and forget about it.. because like others have said the truck aint worth more than 500 bucks..

i bought an old yamaha MX80 4 stroke dirtbike for 20 bucks that way.. we were talking to the guy and we told him i only have 20 bucks and he said he'd take it..

No I have not. I am still thinking about it. I am working with him over email mainly. I have a few other vehicles I am looking at as well.

I have done your way before and it does work sometimes

$500 MAX.... If you have a compression tester it would not be a bad idea to bring that with you. Sounds like that engine needs some work...
