The "Taking my Edge with me overseas" thread!
hi there
2004 Edge V6 3.0 Flareside
Bone stock besides a K&N filter and shaved air box
I'll be moving overseas soon, and I've decided to take my Ranger with me.
It's going to receive several "gifts" before leaving the states, like new rims, tires, spray on bedliner, camper shell, and who knows what else.
Where we're going gas prices are really bad but distances are minimal compared to what we drive here. I'll be opening a sign shop so I'm thinking the truck would be one of the best advertisements for my biz, so it compensates the gas inefficiency. No worries about the paint because I'm gonna wrap it once we get there.
I just want to leave my truck info here for future reference, because I'll be asking a lot of questions in hope you more veteran owners can guide me in the right direction.
I'm actually looking at a camper shell for it, I don't like the way they look on flaresides but it's something more practical than aesthetic. $350 I believe is a good price.
Next is a 3" body lift, bigger tires, maybe a push bar or something like that, is gonna be very heavy looking, but the idea is to draw attention. Is going to be UNIQUE, as the only one in town. There are other rangers, but 4 door ones, and no flaresides around for sure.
Let me know what your suggestions are for the look I'm trying to achieve (read aggresive, off-roady)
Thanks for staying until the end :)

no suspension modification necessary if your doing a body lift. it just puts 3 inch "spacers" between the body and frame. But if you want your truck to sit level after the lift, id just crank the torsion bars so the front is level with the back. not bad, takes no time at all. possibly an alignment needed after. When i cranked my bars it was right before i put new tires and a control arm on so i needed to have an alignment anyways.
as far as body lift goes, look at summit and performance accessories.. IIRC all 98+ ranger body lifts will be compatiable. Dont quote me on that though. Good luck man!

Let's get real guy, I'm moving back home, there are a lot of incentives for those who decide to go back, but there are also guidelines. to prevent abusive people to use it on their advantage. Title has to be under your name for at least one year, one vehicle per person and so on .... so no, I won't be able to send you a 4 door once I get there :D
EDIT: I won't be driving there in the truck, is a 10hr flight ..... how long do you think it can take on a ranger ?

Well, I want to get this "transformation" to get started, so far one promising camper for $350, but it's in San Antonio .
Need links for your suggestions on the body lift kit, 3 inches is fine I guess. There's a guy in town who does installations so I'll probably have him do it for me. Haven't had a chance to talk to him about price ... what's a rough estimate for labor to install a lift kit ?
I want to buy it and take it to him to install it.

Another question while I still sit on my "new" wheels.
Truck is 60K miles, never gone through anything major, besides a tune up what would you guys recommend me to do before taking it with me ? I talking about stuff that needs to be done at a certain mileage, engine or transmission related.
