brakes?

im just curious as to how long you guys have had brakes last. i just had my truck serviced today and they told me i need new front pads and to have the rotors re-surfaced. Apparently the inside pads are warn almost to the metal. the truck only has 23 almost 24 thousand miles on it. I'm just surprised that i need brakes already, granted i do mostly city driving and have been pulling a 10 foot loaded box trailer every summer since i got the truck. Idk im just surprised, what do you guys think?

oh and i also have to have the left front axle seal replaced to because its leaking, but thats under warranty so i dont care as much.

Thats right on track for front brakes, especially with that kind of load and city driving. I did about 30,000 on mine with mostly highway and some city. Rear drums on the other hand, I'm on 103,000 miles with the same ones. I should probably replace them just because they're almost 7 years old and have over 100k on them.

A lot of mechanics will try to throw in a rotor replacement/resurface when they do your brakes so they get more money. I strongly suggest getting a repair manual and doing them yourself. front brakes are probably the easiest thing Ive done on a ranger except changing the oil.

Not saying YOUR mechanic is shady...but a lot are.

Yeah you can do it yourself.. but you still need to get your rotors resurfaced.

I had to do my front pads and rotors at 45,000 km (28,000 miles) and my inside pads were also completely gone while my outsides had some left.
