How do you get the fog lights apart?

How the heck do you get the fog lights apart? I have the ones off a 98 ranger. There is crap inside that I need to clean off of the lens. I just dont want to break this thing. Also, the metal thing inside one of the them is all rusted to hell. What can I do about that? What happens if I take them out?

I just did mine. The Lens actually seperates from the assembly. You have to get the fog lights out the valence first which im sure you know. Then i got a small screw driver and went around the lens with it. You have to really pry on it to get it to come. I broke a few small pieces of my fog assembly doin it but if you careful it will eventually start spreading more and once it spreads enough you can get a razor blade in there to cut the silicone. then they come right apart. I pressure washed mine and they look awesome. Just put new silicone around the lens when you put it back together so they don't hold moisture.

Ok, thanks. Ya, I already got the housing out of the old bumper. So, just start spreading it apart then. I might try it later this evening if I get the chance. You happen to know what the metal plate is supposed to look like? Any paint on it or shiny?

My metal plate was basically chrome. It was all still there for me but i would just go get a can of good chrome reflective paint if i were you. BTW they shine like ten times brighter once you clean all the mud and dirt out of them. its amazing. lol

Ok, I might go get some of that chrome paint because I already know that one of them is all rusted up. It will give me a chance anyways to test out some chrome paint.

there ya go. kill two birds with 1 stone. well good luck and post up your results. Jus remeber that when your seperating the lens from the assembley that the assembly is really easy to break. It won't hurt if you break a few little spots but def. dont break it all the way around.

Ok, got the one apart tonight. What a *****. I looked at the metal plate inside and it is flat black so that is what I am going to paint it. Other than that it is good.

If you remove the ring it will spread the light a bit more. Also make sure you notice that the fogs are left and right. I didn't and I put them in on the wrong sides and the lights was all messed up. Can you blame me for thinking Ford was too cheap to actually make 2 different housings?

One of my bulbs burnt out about a week ago and for some reason the stupid bulb is stuck in the socket and I can't twist it either way. It wiggles, but it doesnt crack loose. I've had it out before though, just a few months ago so I dunno what the beef is now.

Sucks only having 1 foglight that works because they really are handy.

good deal man. jus put some new household silicone around them when you put them back together so they arent leaky and you'll be good to go.
