Some new FUNCTIONAL Mods on my 2011 - Bed lights, floorliners, cargo light, cupholder

Well, having just made my first payment last week, I already got the itch to mess with a few things. "Stock" is such a nasty word anyway:). Nothing too exciting, but I'm pretty happy with everything and wanted to share.

First off, I bought some floomats/floorliners. The fronts are Weathertech brand, and the rear is made by Husky. Nobody makes a rear floormat for the 2-door Supercab, so I bought the cheaper Husky model for 4-doors and modified it to fit.

Fronts fit VERY nicely and are a very heavy duty, solid material.

Ford did change from a single floormat holder to two separate ones, so i did have to add two new holes...no big deal:

The rear fit great, after removing the side panels and trimming the mat to fit tightly underneath them.

Next, I added the 60/40 bench seat cupholder. Ford includes these on automatic trucks, but deletes them on manuals since they have the shifter console. The mounting holes are still present in the bench seat, so I ordered one from the dealer. The cupholder does interfere with the shift boot VERY slightly when slid all the way forward, you lose maybe 1.5" of travel. No biggie, and a place for cell phone/wallet/whatever is nice.

I do a lot of camping/fishing, so being able to see at night is always nice too. I replaced my solid red third brake light with an F250 cargo light, and wired it into the dome light. I also replaced the dome light with an LED panel, and replaced the cargo light/third brake light incandescents with LED bulbs. Conversion to LED was really only done in order to drain the battery less quickly when used for extended periods of time, and to hopefully avoid ever having to remove the cargo light housing again. So far it's been handy being able to turn them on with the remote unlock button.

Dome Light (basically the sun):

Cargo Light:

My last and most favorite addition were LED strip lights I added to the sides of the bed. I pulled constant 12v back to the Driver's side taillight, and wired the lights up to a waterproof pushbutton switch. The switch illuminates when lit, and it's mounted in an existing hole in the bed, up high where it should be fairly well protected. I really like the way it turned out, and they should light the bed especially well when I add a tonneau cover in the future.

I also got my bed Line-X'd a couple weeks back, I guess you can see that in the pictures anyway.

I took a lot of pictures while installing the bed lights, so I may put together a how-to eventually. Thanks for looking!

Everything looks great! Where did you get the front mats at? My Dad has this style mat in his F150 and I love 'em. I must be dumb though because I can't find them for a Ranger.

That bed light is awesome!
Can you put up some more info on how you wired them, where you got the LED strips and such?!

Looks great! I love those Weathertech mats... have some in my Mazda and they work great.

I'd be very interested to see your bed light how-to as well!

You can buy them from weathertech.com, or a bunch of other places carry them. The ones I have are the molded "Floorliner" product.

The lights themselves I got from oznium.com, specifically the waterproof SMD Bar. I got the cool white, but I would have gone with the warm white if I had it to do over. I also suggest buying the "extension cable" they offer, so you don't have to cut/splice in your own pigtails (the leads are very very short).

As far as how I wired them, I just pulled 12v constant from where the battery cable enters the fusebox (under the hood), added an inline fuse, and then carefully ran it back to the driver's taillight compartment. I then mounted the strips with 3M double sided tape, ran them to a waterproof switch in the existing hole you can see in the one picture, and connected up my newly pulled 12v and a good ground. My goal was to do everything w/o drilling any holes, and I succeeded!

I'll put together a how-to here soon. I'll link it here when I do.

Bed lights look great! Definitely post-up a How-To with links to where you got the stuff-especially the switch--nicest DIY set-up I've seen.

Thanks, I realize what my problem was now. I've been putting 2002 Ranger into my searches, and Weathertech/most sites lists these as 2005 and up. Wish I knew that before I bought my $80 Catch-All mats.

Those front mats are AWESOME. And the LED stripes are great. When and if I get a new bed I will do Line-X and stripes just like that. Those are great.

I have the same console/cupholders set up. Don't even try to fit a litre of cola in there and expect to shift into second or fourth. It is nice to throw the phone in there though. Nice lights too.

I really want to do the LED strip thing, I just don't want to run a power wire and i want a switch inside the cab by my other light switches. or maybe even in the center console. we'll see.
