Holy Smokes, I have that annoying humming noise...I know its the Idle Air Control Valve, but jeesh, the cheapest one i found was $75. Its right on the side of my intake, i unplug it, idles rough, plug it back in the noise comes back, im 100% sure its that because i seen previous posts, but crist, almost $80!? What am I doing wrong, i thought they were cheap like $30 or something from what i read, and thats through Napa.

 

when i had to get a new one it was $98 at the dealer Its doesnt make sense because there's not much at all to that damn thing.

 

O man i know, i just didnt think they were that expensive for a piece of aluminum with 2 bolts holding it on?! Wow lol Or maybe im looking in the wrong place?

 

You know, ive always gone to either the dealer or Napa, and napa usually/definitely has lower prices, im not sure who else sells them?

 

why don't you try cleaning it first...?

I paid like 65 at autozone. They had to order it so it took a day but big deal.

 

I paid like $45 at Auto Zone and they had it in stock. I had the same problem, but not anymore!!

 

I did clean it twice, but it comes back like really quick, especially in the heat, and im kind of sick of taking it off all the time, but jesus for that kind of money it really dont sound all to bad! Its one of those things im gonna have to break down and just get over it and buy it.


Ide say Napa, Autozone etc etc. most DEFINATELY has cheaper prices then the dealer!

 

Cleaning it is only a temporary solution. Sometimes you can get 6 months out of it, sometimes 2 days. I picked my IAC valve from www.fordparts.com for $50 bucks I believe. The dealer is VERY expensive. My local dealer wanted $118 for it lol.

 

Yeah, cleaning it took care of it, like you said, temporarily. I guess the point to this was holy smokes they were expensive, and pretty much to see if it really was that much lol. Im still dumbfounded that little thing is that much!

Yes it would. Your IAC is responsible for pretty much everything when it comes to idling. When you disconnect an IAC as the engine is running, you get the same effect that you did (RPMs drop to 500 and idle is bad). Then, when you plug it back in, RPMs go back to normal and all is well w/ the idle, well, as well as a Ranger's idle can be lol.

Yeah, it may be small but it performs a vital function, just like O2 sensors.

Be happy it lasted as long as it did (I think you said over 100k miles?). I have almost 30,000 miles on my 2002 and have had to replace one already.

 

Well i broke down today and bought one $72.99 at Autozone, i feel violated but no more problems with it starting up and ideling. Ya the truck had 120k on it and it said Motocraft on the IAC lol, its WELL over due, it looked NASTY compared to the new one. Its all fixed so, no worrys for a little while. But man i feel so violated!

 

26k miles and I'm going to pick one up this week =\

 

Just bought one for the Bronco today for $70. I cleaned out the stock one and its running fine now, so I'm not sure if I will use the new one or not. But yeah, they rape you with those, the EGR sensors and so on.

 

My truck is doing the same thing. I need to get mine replaced ASAP. Cleaning didn't do jack for it.

RangerEdge02- Where did you find an IAC on the Fordparts website? I failed to find one. -Mike-

 

Search their mechanical catalog, then click on fuel system, fuel induction, fuel injection and then click idle speed control.

The way i found it was by putting in a part number and fnding it that way. I got the part number from www.motorcraft.com Click on part look up, then enter in year, make model, engine, then "emissions, fuel", then fuel injection, then "Idle Air Control Motor".

I have noticed that if you try to put the part number from the motorcraft site on the "part number?" link on ford parts.com it doesn't find it. If you click on their "oem parts catalog" then where it says "2 Search by Factory Part Number" enter the part number there and it will find it. You can enter either the ford part number (long one) or the motorcraft part number (short one)
