Is it worth it??
Hola everybody, Need some advice.
I have a 2wd 98 ranger with 170k miles, its been well takin care of, tune-ups are done every 30,000 miles oil changes done every 3,000 miles, new air filter, new spark plug wires. The transmission needs to be replace as well as the water pump. The body has a few dents, it still has the stock tape player and the interior is in good condition but its not that good looking. I bought it from my grandpa when i was 17 now im 20 and now i have money to spend on it.
I wanted to buy the fabtech ultimate kit, a MAC intake, Magnaflow exhuast, e-fan, crank pulley, water pump underdrive pulley, alternator overdrive pulley, gatorback belt, a cd player, and interior speakers.
But is it worth fixing up? Does anyone know how long my ranger will last me?
I know with out actually seeing the truck or knowing the actual condition of the truck it will be hard to tell. But is anyone out there driving a ranger with more than 200k. Id hate to spend over $3,000 on aftermarket parts when the truck will give in a couple of years.
Any advice?
Thanks in advance

If you have a 3.0 I wouldn't spend 3k on it, but that doesn't mean you can't spend anything on it. Just make sure you get the most bang for your $ and that you could transfer it to another vehicle or get some cash back, ie, e-fan and crank pulley/belt. Crank pulley alone, with belt is about $115 shipped and you can do your own e-fan (bare bones ) with controller for $80 [I did]. I'd bet you could sell the pulley and get at least half of your money back on it. If your truck is dying though [trans problems], I'd plow it all into something with less miles.

my first truck i bought was an 1987 Ford Ranger for $600 with 247,000 miles on it. I ran it and cleaned the motor up and ran it for another 20,000 and sold it for $1,000. the old man i sold it to still drives it every day and it's approaching 300,000 by now. some rangers die early but there are those trucks that you just can't stop runnin. you might want to spend the money but it's entirely up to you.
