Would you be afraid to.......

buy a 02 Ranger FX4 (Level II) with 93,000 miles? I generally try to buy vehicles with under 50K, but I am having a hard time finding used L2's. I would prefer a black truck, this one is.

One owner and claims well care for and maintained. Selling it because he needs to get rid of his "extra" vehicles. Must be nice to have that kinda problem ehh?

Well anyway, asking $9k. He must have driven it alot to get that kind of miles in just 3 years. What do you guys think? From the pics it looks awesome.....but thats just pics. Thanks. Adam

have a mechanic check it out. Might cost you a couple bucks but if itz the truck you want it would be worth it to have it looked at first. I agree that itz a lot of miles and I tend to look for vehicles with much lower miles than that.

The price isn't bad, but never pay the offering price. But it doesn't sound too bad. High milage is OK if it's just a street /highway queen. That is still alot of miles for an "extra" vehicle. If the FX4 was his daily commuter, I wonder what his "extra extra" car is.

well, the only strong point it has on me over the net, is that it DOES have high miles and it's fairly new[er]. That would [uaually] mean highway miles. Those are the easiest miles a car/truck can get.

For 9 grand, I'd go look at it.

I have had my truck just over 3 years now. I have 102600 miles as of this morning. About 90k miles are straight highway. Just make sure he has completed general maintenance and you should be ok. The 100k mark is very intimidating, but dont let it stop you. 9k isnt bad for what you are getting.

My Splash has 93,000 miles and it is in tip-top perfect shape. I bought it for less than half of what you could get a better truck for!

95k in 4 years, or even 5 yrs?
nah, not for $9k.

Crawl underneath and check around the rear main seal and trans for leaks.
If its a auto, be very leary. A rebuild 5r55e is very expensive, and bad rebuilds are very common. There is a pump bushing that has to be center bored in-place after replacement, which almost nobody does.

Just a question for some of you negative people. How do you know your miles on your "used truck" are accuate? If you didnt get it from the original owner,or bought it from a dealer the chance of odo fraud is very likely.Go more by the wear and tear than miles.Do you honestly think if a car dealer bought a nice 02 fx4 with 90k that looked nice inside and out they wouldnt change it to say a 50k mile truck???It is very easy to do.and dont hink carfax, etc will make a difference.

atleast in my county when you get your echeck everyother year they mark down your milage, so carfax would pick it up if they changed it.... it verys by place tho....

Not everyone is as sly as you. I think there are some legalities that major corporations like Ford and their respective dealers have to follow. I mean, come on.

Sure, look at the wear and tear, but it also shows mileage. My 1995 doesn't feel, drive nor look like it has that many miles, but it surely does.

Talk him down on price a little cause of miles. Maybe try and get it for 8.5k or maybe even 8k. Then you can use the bread you saved and buy a new motor/tranny or get them rebuilt when it is time.

The lower the miles the less worries. that way if you get one's with less miles you know what is done to it!?

so does that mean go out and buy a truck with high miles because all the trucks with low miles most likely has been turned back?
How does anyone know if there miles were turned back? The truck with 90k could have had 110k on it and they turned it back to 90k.
Personally i think you can just tell by driving the vehicle if it has been turned back a lot of miles. If it was only turned back a few thousand, of course no one will notice, but thats the whole risk of buying a used vehicle.

(and no im not getting offensive on you or trying to start anything, just stating my opinion)
