Hot Mama Update-Toys For The Truck
A year ago I got some very sound advice from many on this site and I appreciated it. I come once more for similar sound advice. My son has a 2007 FX4 and he of course wants to do lots of things to it. All is stock at this time. Grill Gaurds and lights? Have any advice about what fits well and actually works that is not a custom fabrication?
I promised that I would ask this one (though I think this might be dangerous and cause the neighbors to stare and shake their heads) regarding the best
3"-4" lift kits.
I think that he will have to ask his own questions from now on. Thanks guys.... and girls.
Happy Holidays Everyone!!!!!

You have 2 good choices for lifts, a 3" body lift or a 4" suspension lift by Superlift.
The body lift will run you under $250 and will allow you to fit 33x12.5" tires while the Superlift is around $1500 and allows you to fit the same. The body lift can be put on with hand tools over a weekend by your son and a few of his friends, its very simple. Superlift can be installed in the driveway as well, I don't know about difficulty being I've never installed one.
For the grill guard I would look at Westin or Go Rhino, they both make good products. For lights for the bar I'm partial to the KC Slimlites myself.
Any other questions just let us know!

While the body lift is cheap, the suspension lift will be more stylish and functional.
Grill Guards aren't too hard to find. You can buy cheaper knock offs on eBay, but the best out there are definitely going to be a little more costly.
Lights, Hella's or KC's are the best known, and have the best looks, IMO.

One thing to keep in mind is that if he does a body lift, and still wants a grill guard he will have to have some brackets fabbed up for the grill guard to work. If you or your son has the money to spend I'd go with the Superlift.
If he wants to even go a little higher there is another suspension lift, I think it's about $2100 and it gives you 5.5" of lift. If you have the money, that's the way to go.

Go for the warn tranfromer I have had mine for a few years now and it has been great, its the only bursh guard thats not to bulky in my opinion.
some pictures of mine
Oh and I second the KC slimlights, I have daylighters and they work great but the lower profile of the slim lights would be nice.

I have an '08 XLT 4x4 and just put a 3" body lift on it... I was nervous about it 'cause I've heard how the BL changes the ride of the truck but it really just makes it look like a 4WD more than anything. Granted I think his truck should be 1" higher stock than mine was but it doesn't make it look HUGE, just w/ 33s it makes it look a little tougher and more like a truck than a toy. Also I didn't notice much change in stock ride, just more resistance in turns...
