Those little steam machines that blow out prsesurized steam work pretty well but not everyone has one.

Simple Green and a hose. Sometimes I borrow my friend's pressure washer. Just dont get too close to anything because the pressure can destroy seals.

if you have access to a pressure washer (like I do at work) spray it with that. Make sure you cover up your EDS coil, and block off where your ECM sits, then go to town!

I just spray mine with degreaser and rinse with cold water. Regular garden hose works fine. After everything dries I spray it with CD-2 engine detailer. It goes alot faster if you have an air compressor to blow off most of the water then towel dry the rest. Last time I didn't cover anything. Just keep from getting the alternator and power dist. box soaked and you'll be fine. Do this when the engine is cold.

Made by Simple Green, but works MUCH better.

let it set a few minutes, then house it away with no attachment on the hose.

I'm sorry to bump such an old thread but I've been wanting to detail my engine for so long. So what would you guys recommend is the best to clean an engine?

And what do you do? Just spray it on everything (minus the alternator and power dist box, as mentioned) and then just rinse it off with the hose? No scrubbing or anything? Do I need to be careful when I spray the hose to not get it on anything or should everything be fine?

I want to do this when I get my new intake :)

I used this stuff when I was doing the motor work on my Grizzly. Also used it to clean an oil leak on my motor that has there for 3 years before. Worked like a hot damn. I get it through work, so thats why I use it.

Alright, next time I wash my truck I'll go to the auto parts store and grab something there.

I clean mine w/ simple green and a toothbrush. I'd be happy if there's a spray product that equals no scrubbing.
