? for you guys that drive standard
I have a 2006 2.3l std truck.
What is you sweet spot in shifting?
When i shift at 2000rpm my truck kind of jerks. but when i shift at 2500-3000 it is smooth as butter.
How about you guys?
Do you guys shift at looking at the tach then shift or do you just hear the engine roar then shift?
This is the first truck that has a tach and i find myself looking at the tach to shift, but before i use to just listen to the engine then shift when needed.

With the ranger I shifted at 2-2500 but that was with the 3.0L; different powerband than a 2.3L Duratec, with that motor you'll need to shift higher i'd think, as the 3.0L and 4.0L have more torque down low.. my roomate's focus doesnt have a tach (has cheezy arrows instead..lol) and when I drive it I just feel when it needs to be shifted.

I usually shift around 4500-5000. When going at it.. 7000.

I never really use the tach. I usually shift around 2200 or 2500ish around town, fuel efficient. 3000 feels just half right. And D, 4500 feels nice. Only time I really use the tach is when the stereo is too loud, and when I look at the speedo, just glance at the tach.

about 2500 is perfect, 1000 or little under if Im looking short of gas money for the week. 3500 is really pushing it for me, I really see no reason ever to go higher than that.
I agree.. if you are using the tach you don't drive a stick. Well said whoever that was..
Never had a truck with a tach till now. Still don't use it but its nice to know its there I guess??
Ive got a 98 4.0

My truck lacks a tach but any other car under "normal" driving conditions I usually shift around 3000. With my slow as crap truck I usually just wind it out to what I would guess is around 5000. Good thing I don't have a tack or I would probably be sitting there going "eh its got a little more" and put that much more stress on it
