HID's not working.

HID's not working.

I tried to hook my HID's up today. I hooked the black balast wire into the center of the stock harness adaptor. Red wire went into the right side (low beam) of the adaptor. Nothing worked.

I checked the stock harness with my stock bulb. It worked.
Swaped out balasts, still nothing worked.
Swaped out the HID bulbs, once again nothing worked.

I'm stumped and would like my HID's to work.

HID brand is Xentec if that matters any.

Bad ballasts? Did you try the high beams just in case you wired them to the high beams?

Could be possible that you need to flip the connector on the ballast itsself. That chunk of wire that goes between the stock plug and the ballast....flip it around on the ballast. I think my set had to be flipped.

Forgot all about that possibility when we were PMing. lol.

I did order two HID kits, so if thats the case I can compare them. I did check the low beam and high beam and still got nothing.

I would find it odd that both the ballasts do not work.

You mean the wires from the stock plug to the balast? The wires that plug into the adaptor?

Yeah they could have wired it backwards.

Im about to post a pic. I do think it's wired wrong so we're onto something here. I forgot about this possibility. If it is this needs to be added into the How-To.

its the wire that goes from your stock harness to the balast. they often have em backwards.

also, check the light and low beam and see if that is wrong

I thought I covered it. idk. i'll edit it in when i do a add-on for the relay harness.






Theres the wire that goes from the stock plug, to the ballst. At the ballast, flip that connector 180degrees. Like I said, i think my set had that little issue.....or it's the set on the subaru. IDR. But flip that connector. Even if the ballast says + and when you put it back together it's mating the + to the -, it'll most likely work.

OR..........flip the wires at the connector that goes into the stock harness.....flip the Pos and the Neg. You'll accomplish the same thing as flipping it at the ballast.

FIXED!!!!

Wires going to balast were wrong.

So i fixed it and they are both working fine. Thanks for the tip guys. I thought this thing was idiot proof. I was wrong lol.

o btw JESUS CHRIST THESE ARE BRIGHT!!! Tomorrow im installing the fogs, and changing my oil.

For the headlights 5000k, 6000k (installed right now)

For my fogs 3000k

I did notice when i turn them on one will turn on and the other (pass. side) will flicker once then stay off.

I'm thinking the add on relay will cure this, but I have no idea where to start on this.

I can't find the store I got mine from......but linked above is what I suggest. I run one on my headlamps...no issues at all with my fogs, so no need yet. Not only do they tie eachother together, but it also gives you an extra left/right fuse. I have blown a couple left or right headlamp fuses...run the relay harness, when one pops, you've got a spare on hand.

Glad you got it fixed man! I was about to suggest a test light on the low beam wire... Those 10A fuses blow easily on our trucks.

learn from my mistake. dont use your hl's unless absolutley needed untell you install your relay kits. I burnt up both pass side hl and fog light ballasts in a week or so with out relays.. kinda funny we both had pass side issues

ive been waiting like 2 weeks now for my replacement ballasts which "should be here any day". just save your self the hassle

Its wierd they work perfectly with the engine running. When i just turn the HID's on (without engine running) only one works. I figure they are too much of a draw on the battery.

Not enough juice in the ballast to light it. I always turn my engine on to show off the HID's.....i do take pics of the engine off now that i have no ebrake anymore. lol.

The relay kit will fix that problem man. It's about $20 and 10-15mins for install. Like shane said, when the voltage is applied to the circuit some is lost when one is lit then the other doesn't quite have 12V to ignite the other ballast, causing it not to come on. Minimum to ignite the ballast is 12v. The relay ensures that both ballasts get the 12v they need when the circuit is triggered on.

Yeah. Thats what I figured. I ordered a HID Relay kit at 8:15PM Yesterday so it should be here soon.

These 5000k HID's are AMAZING. Can't wait to try my 6000k tomorrow, and install those ballasts to the Fogs.
