Ranger won't start after being parked for 1-2 years

I recently acquired a 1992 Ranger 4.0l v6 that was destined for scrap. It was running when parked, about 2 yrs. ago. Now when I try to start it it acts as though something is not telling the fuel pump to continue providing fuel after I release the starter. I have done the following:

* Drained the fuel tank and put fresh gas in.
* Replaced the Fuel Filter.
* Changed the Idle-Air Control Motor.
* Tested the Fuel Pump Relay.
* Checked the Inertia Switch.

When I turn the key it cranks and VRoom but as soon as I let go of the key it dies. I pulled the fuel pump relay to test it. While the relay was disconnected I tried to start it and it only cranked, did not fire. The relay passed it's tests.

The truck's body is in pretty good shape and it would be a shame to shred it. I'm told that there will be other issues once I get it running again but I'll cross those bridges as I come to them. Right now I am just baffled by this. Suggestions or more questions all appreciated.

Haynes Manual says Ignition on/Engine off should be 40. I'll check again. The flow rate seems to be good.

The return less 98+ trucks run the higher pressure.

If you give it a bit of gas will it stay running?

I haven't tried that yet. Can you recommend a good way to do that?

It makes no difference. As soon as I let go of the key it quits. Like I have turned off the fuel pump.

I am thinking that you lose power from start to run. Like the switch is bad and turns off the computer.

I am just taking a guess here.

its something in the ignition, If it was in the fuel relay, in wouldn't even prime when you turn the key.
However, the fact that it does not run while you've got the gas pedal pressed down is quite baffling, that should have done it. Which leads me to believe that it might be something to do with the rail.
