1998 4x4 ranger rabs problems

Welcome to the forum.
In 1998 the ABS module is connected directly to the VSS(rear axle sensor).
The Computer(OBD2), GEM/Speedo, and Cruise are tapped into the VSS wires.
S235 and S236 in below PDF
If VSS was the problem then speedo would be off as well which you don't mention.
ABS light can come on if brake fluid is low, connector on Brake Master, or if brake lights are not working, a blown fuse.
OBD2 "no communications" means something is wrong with OBD2 reader or Computer
Code numbers are what you need to post if you got any.
