Ordered a cheap car alarm (trucks been broken into recently) from amazon (DX370). It's a straight forward alarm and works really well. I installed it yesterday under the steering wheel. So far the main features work: doors opened while armed sets it off, ignition start while armed sets it off, and the shock sensor works really well. However i'm having problems with the parking lights and the automatic door locks. The parking lights should be a brown wire underneath the driver side kick panel, but i could not find it at all...there's literally a hundred wires bound there. The closest thing to solid brown i could find was more dark grey, and I cut it to see if it was the parking lights, but nope...so i reattached...no luck. Lastly I only know what the door lock negative and door unlock negative wires are. Anyone with assistance on these 5 wires would be a hugeeeee help.

sorry this is a little late but i just saw your post, i recently install a clifford rsx 3.5 in my 2000 xlt and installation in your 99 should be indetical. first off the ranger has a type b door lock system which works with negative pulses. with your alarm by looking at the diagram when you hit the lock button on the remote the alarm will send a negative pulse down the light green wire and a positive pulse down the light blue wire. this means you will connect the light green wire to the pink/yellow wire in the driver kick panel. i had trouble locating these wires aswell so i pulled back the boot going to the driver side door and was able to locate them and made my connections there. now when you hit the unlock button on your remote the alarm will do the opposite positive down the light green and neg down the light blue meaning you will hook up the light blue wire to the pink/light green wire also found in the driver side boot... if your having trouble making the connection inside the boot and properly sodering it (i was able to with much frustration) i would just recommend taking off the driver door panel removing the speaker and properly sodering your connection there... as far as the parking lights i dont exactly remember the location of the wire i think i found it somewhere near the firewall above the pedals but like i said im not 100 percent sure on that... one question for you... you said your alarm goes off when you open the door but did you kno the truck has 2 door trigger wires one for each side if both arnt connected via a diode your alarm wont activate when the passenger side door is opened... you can get diodes from your local radio shack i was lazy and didnt want to run out to the store but got lucky my alarm had to door trigger inputs a neg and a pos so for the passenger side i had a spare relay laying around so i hooked it up so the pos via the relay hope i wasnt to late getting back to you let me kno if you have any other questions... if your still having trouble with the parking lights let me kno ill dive under the dash and take a look for you...

 

yup you're right on the doors, i just looked it up after your reply. As for the parking lights, it was the one i cut....i assumed that the lights would stop working if i cut it, but was wrong, rewired the alarm to it and it worked. As for the doors, i found the trigger wire on both sides, and ran a long wire from the passenger side to the drivers side, and actually used the trunk release wire from the car alarm. That way when the passenger side is opened, the car alarm thinks the trunk has been triggered. For the drivers door i did the hood release wire for the same effect. Doors work perfectly now. The only problem i have is that the alarm goes off after like 30 min no matter what. Everything is wired perfectly, i think i just didn't understand the relay. I have the orange wire going into the relay, and i have the red and white wires from the relay connected. Like i said the car alarm works perfect 99% of the way except the fact that if i set it and walk away, it's bound to go off.

 

well what are you trying to do with the relay usually your typical car alarm set up with a a relay you'll have 4 or in some cases 5 wires coming out of the relay 2 wires to power the relay and 2/3 more for the switching effect you desire

 

simply put a relay is just and electronic switch when the relay is power the switch toggles to one pole then when powered off back to the original pole

 

The only reason I'm using the relay is because it's in the schematic i posted. I don't fully understand relays in car systems...i understand them in general but in this case i don't know. I didn't have it hooked up and my alarm would go off after 30 minutes or so, so I just assumed it was because of the relay, so I hooked it up as per that instruction book, and it still does it. Any ideas? I don't think I really need it honestly.

 

the relay is for a starter disable when you arm the alarm it will open the starter circuit thus preventing the truck from starting when armed... once the alarm is disarmed or disconnected the starter circuit is closed again allowing the truck to start

 

but as i look back threw your original post you said the starter disable is working.... however that is the only relay im seeing in the diagram... double check how you have it connected it should be as follows...

the orange wire should be connected to the number 86 pole on the relay and the 85 pole should be connected to the constant 12v power or battery... now you have to cut the starter wire into two leads an in and an out easily put and connect one to the 30 pole on the relay and one to the 87a pole on the relay...

the 87a pole is the n/o pole meaning when the relay is not recieving power (a circuit) it will connect 30 to 87a... and when the relay is powered up it will create a circuit between 30 and 87 leaving 87a open...

 

you also had posted you have one door hooked up to the hood pin input and the truck pin input... i hope your not referring to the brown/black wire as the trunk pin input that is an output wire when your aux channel is in use same as the orange starter wire... im only seeing on hood/trunk pin input however you do have two door pin trigger inputs a + and a - so you can wire them the same way i did or use the hood pin for one and the door pin for the other... however i would do it the same way i did and put a hood pin under the hood the more protection the better... ive even put a pin trigger in my tailgate even tho i dont usually leave expensive items in there unprotected i do have a power tailgate lock

 

to fully understand the problem your having i would need to know how everything is connected... if you could tell me what wires from the alarm are connected to the truck and how and what wires arnt in use... then i can help you further
