All:

I have a 2000 Ford Ranger XLT 4x4 3.0L V6.

I have a replacement flex fuel sensor sitting on my work bench waiting to be installed on my truck. However, I have hit a snag when it comes to removing the fuel lines that are connected to the sensor. The fuel lines themselves connect to steel tubing that gets pushed into the Flex Fuel sensor. There are these tabs that allow the insertion of the tubes but not release. In order to get them to release you have to compress them against the fitting walls so that the tube will back out. I attached a picture for help.

I bought the quick disconnect tool at 5/16" and 3/8". The 3/8" size will not fit into fitting, and the tubes are too big for the 5/16" size. I was able to get the 5/16" size into the fitting but I believe it is not getting down far enough to compress all the tabs. All my gorilla strength didn't matter, the tool just would not go in. I thought I could file down the tool a little bit to see if I could get it to pass, and I had a good thing going until the tool broke. So I am running out of ideas on how to fix this.

I thought originally that I could use some wrenches on the fittings of the FF sensor because it appears that you should because of the hex sided edges. I am not quite sure why they are there though. They definitely are not budging, and if you look close enough, even though it may seem that they are two separate bolts where you hold one and turn the other, they are not. They are one solid piece. So I am stuck.

None of the auto part stores around here have a tool that can release these tubes. There is one more place I can go, but I really don't think I am going to get anywhere.

Any Suggestions?

I really could use help with this if you ever found your answer. I desperately need to disconnect the fuel line between the fuel filter and the flex sensor. Anyone please help.

 

I am now having a similar issue, but I was able to unscrew the fuel lines at the Flex Fuel sensor. There are tabs above that as you say, but I too have no idea how to release those. Unscrewing the hex fittings as you say, was just a matter of leverage and a whole lot of torque. Now that I have it apart, putting it back together I can not apply enough torque to get the fittings to screw in all the way. My Flex fuel sensor is now leaking as a result. I too need help with this and am wondering if either of you got yours fixed?
