2002 xlt problems

ok im not sure if this should be in here but it sounded good.
last week i help a buddy of mine do some work to his truck now his 4 wheel drive will not engage (4 high or 4 low) his truck is a 2002 xlt super cab 4x4 with a 4.0 sohc here is a list of everything we did

replaced his alternator
replaced his serp. belt
new plugs and wires
changed his oil and filter
and put a new k&n Filter

does anyone think any of that work may have caused it or does anyone know anything we can check to get the problem fixed he took it to the dealer but they wanted 80 dollors to check it

Yeah try that, and when you unhook the cable, hit the brake like 5 or 6 times to drain all the extra juice thats in the system...I have no other clue what it could be though...

checked the cannon plug on the transfer its good, pretty much anything to do with the 4x4 electrical also is there a safty that stops it from engaging if the diff or transfer fluid is low my buddy dosnt wanna pull the plug he is afraid of stuff comin out (if its anything like a hmmv it should only be to the bottom of the hole)
