Brake Drum Size

Hey, everyone.

I've been doing some research regarding the size of the brake pads for my truck. Regardless of it being a crewcab, which is not sold in the US, many of the issues I've had with it are solved the same way as any US Ranger.

So, the problem is this. I've found that there are two sizes for Rangers: 9 inch drums for 2wd and 10 inch drums for 4x4... thing is my drums are 11 inches.. lol... All shops around here either sell a 9 or 10 inch. No 11 inch option available. lol.

Here are a couple of pics of my drums proving this:

Name: Photo0006.jpg
Views: 7662
Size: 178.8 KB
Name: Photo0007.jpg
Views: 5179
Size: 137.9 KB

Despite the fact that I have a Dana 44 as rear axle. Are my drums different? Has any of you measured the size of the drums so you get an exact size? Say, 10 or 9 inches?

Any help figuring this out is more than welcome...

Pads and drum look fine. Maybe some adjusting and cleaning and that's it. My question is, do the drums on your trucks measure 9 or 10 inches? Has any of you really measured them? Don't wanna sound dumb, but I'm stuck here. lol.

If I buy the pads at the dealership, they are 140 bucks. Kinda pricey...

I'd ask the dealer for a cross reference number or something because 140 is pretty steep lol and you're lucky for having that axle.

I asked for the part number but they refused to provide it. Dude on the phone took like 5 minutes to tell me the price of the pads.

How come having a D44 with 4.56 gears is better than a 8.8? lol. Also... How expensive is to swap to disc brakes?

Dana 44s, once built up are as strong as a Dana 60. Dana 60s are as beefy as it gets.

A ford 8.8 is no where near a D60.

Jeep Wrangler Rubicons have D44s up front and out back. Maybe look into those. Find out what size drums.

Indeed. It takes off really good, despite the weight of the truck, the 4cyl does the job just fine.

I'm trying to figure out which years has D44 and the drum size, so maybe I could go to a Jeep dealership and get the pads... I was hoping Brembo manufactured pads for my Ranger, but I called this place and said Brembo doesn't manufacture drum brake pads for Rangers... so...

My girlfriend's dad said I don't have to replace them asap. He said I can still use them for a couple of months more. They don't make any sound or dust and they have been there since I bought the truck. A week after I bought it, I took it to a shop and they said they were fine. Six months later, replaced the front ones and said the rear ones just needed some adjusting.

Now, A year and a half later, they seem to no wear out enough to be replaced... and the front ones do need to be replaced. Are brake drum pads that durable? If they are, I can save some money and get them from the Ford stealership...

Interesting. I sure did not know that. I guess spending 140 bucks every 3 or 4 years ain't that bad.

The ones I could get for the front are Wagner or Bendix. One of the shops said something about Raybestos... Did my research and apparently the Wagner ones are really good.
