Icon6 2007 RANGER BLINKER MOD.

HI!... Well this weekend I decided to do the "BLINKER MOD" on my 2007 RANGER. As you know the newer Rangers only have a turn signal bulb in the front head light assembly. Well this mod turns the corner marker light into a turn signal as well. This mod allowing more visibility of your turn signals to other motorists.

Here's a few pics :

Here is the stock set-up from the factory on the D/S.

The BLACK/YELLOW (black wire with yellow stripe) needs to be cut. Make sure to leave enough wire so that this mod can be reversed if desired.

HPIM0989.jpg?t=1233020210

I used weather tight male/female electrical connectors for a cleaner look plus it would be very easy to return to stock later if I wanted to. The dead end of the wire got a opposite connector, and I simply used another connector to block it off. I then used some shrink tubing to make it water resistant.

Now I took the other end of the wire and tapped it into the PURPLE/GREY (purple wire with grey strip). This would be the bottom wire out of the 3 wires on the turn signal harness with the quick clip facing up.

HPIM0997.jpg?t=1233020469

It should look like this :

This is the finished product after everything was taped back up :

I did this the other day too.. I read the other how to for it but obviously the wire colors were different for our 07's. I just figured out the right wires with a DVM. Anyway it works good except the odd time (only when the headlights are on) the DS blinker will blink fast to indicate a blown bulb, but the front blinker/cornerlight still blinks fine as well as the rear. I'm sure I'll be able to figure it out, it's just hard to get my butt out there in the cold to pull the headlight out and recheck my wiring.

You're on the ball with this electrical stuff Neal! What's next? lol

Again,another great how to.

But srsly, after all that work you didn't even make the headlight shut off when the signal is activated like on Chryslers? Half assed! lol.

HI!... Next will be installing a relay and push button to disable the door chime when the doors open. Like when your listening to your radio or trying to clean out the truck. Then once the doors closed it reactivates again, so this way you don't accidentally lock your keys in the truck.

That'll be sweet too.. You're obviously not a stranger to electronics. The more that I play with my truck the more I'm finding that one of the parts I like most is playing with the electrical, and hooking up electrical accessories. I've never installed a relay before, I'll have to read about that because I'm sure I'll eventually have to put a few in.

HI!... To be honest, most of these mods have already been done and are all over the net. I've had to modify most of the instructions to make it work with my 07 due to Ford redesigned the electrical system in my year truck. Concept is the same. Just have to go about a different way to get there. I don't mind doing the electrical but by no means am I good with electronics. That's for sure. I'm more into the mechanical, and fabricating parts (mechanical) from scratch.

Probably something to do with the proximity of the turn signal to the headlight bulb and the visibility of the active turn signal being reduced while the headlight is still lit.

I dunno. I'm gonna go search on that.

Yeah I searched into it,and my original guess was right. They turn off because the headlight/signal are in the same housing and so close together, that when both are lit is is hard to tell if the signal is on, so the headlight shuts off to make the signal clearly visible in the day or night.
