2008 Ranger positive tap for dome light

I did a search and could not find the answer although there are a couple of similar threads.

I want to wire some accessory lights into the dome light circuit and need to tap into the positive wire for the dome light to enable them to come on when the doors are opened up or when the dome light is on.

There is a post concerning a 2000 Ranger, but my wiring looks entirely different.

Please advise,

Thanks

For a 2007 (highest I have access to) its Green/Blue. Of course the easiest way to check is to probe the dome connector to see which wire gets power when you open your doors.

You might want to recheck that.
Most dome lights are activated by the ground wire.
I'm not sure in this case as I don't have a wiring diagram in front of me.
But in order to save costs the manufacturers elect to run one wire to a switch to ground rather that two wires to and from the door switch.

My 2006 was a single black wire with a blue stripe that runs up the drivers side back of the cab (supercab) and is together with the black wire and green wire for the 3rd brake. They split off at the top corner of the glass and the dome wire goes forward to about the middle of the doors and then turns hard right and over to the lamp assy. The 3rd brake wires continue over the back glass until the middle. These all come from the connector under the drivers seat under the carpet. From the seat they run to the bottom middle of the back window with all the speaker wires and left rear door light swith. Under the window lefts and rights T off and go their directions

I see where you're going but notice that the relay controls the map lights not the dome.
That diag doesn't show the dome . Look at the switch in the middle. It shows the ground being switched.

Umm arent map lights manually controlled locally at the doom light?

You can manually turn on the doom light by rolling up the dimmer (which activates the relay) or the same relay can be activated by the door ajar switches.

He didn't ask for what is switched he asked for the positive wire at the dome light.

You're correct in that.
But in order for him to activate any other lights he'll have rethink his wiring. The dome light has 12V hot to it at all times and is switched via ground. The map lights are different.
The map lamps,if you look closely are labeled interior map lamps front. I would take this to mean lamps that are mounted above the rear view mirror.

Thanks for the information. As I suspected there are some differences of opinion. It used to be that all dome lights were triggered by switching to ground with 12V hot at all times. I am finding out that some of the newer vehicles don't do it that way anymore.

Once I get it hooked up and everything working I will post the results. This will take a while since I don't have much time to work on it. This post has helped me short-cut the process by giving me a couple of leads.

Did some more research.
There is no lights around the rear view mirror. They are either in the middle for extended cab or at the back for the regular cabs.

In 04 Ford got rid of the manual map light switches on the light itself. Only one wire goes to the dome light. It has 12V when the doors are open and when the dimmer switch is rolled up. The lights are always grounded via the mounting screw.

Is that the only wire going to it? Also can you post a pic of your dome? I kinda want to see what they look like on the newer models.
