Electric Trailer Brakes

Hey guys, I am thinking about putting these on my boat trailer to help stop the load since the surge brakes, are just ok. (I will have someone install them on the trailer)

Anyone know how to install a brake commander or the 7 pin wiring harness on the truck? Or should this be done by profesionals??

Thanks,
Chris

I installed a Tekonsha Voyager brake controller on my Ranger. It came with all the installation instructions and was not that difficult to do. If you don't mind connecting into your electrical system and running a few wires, you should be able to do it.

The trucks I use at work all have brake controller for the landscape trailers and mower trailers. They have saved me many times on wet roads where abs wont do a darn thing when the loads pushing you down hill. I let the pros handle handle anything thats gonna save my tail when i hit the whoaa pedal so i dont put a dent in the firewall.

It's actually pretty easy to install the 7 pin plug, and a brake controller. Use this plug. It gives you the 4 pin & 7 pin plugs. It simply plugs into the existing 4 pin plug on the truck, and all you have to do is run wires back to the cab for the brake controller, and aux 12v (if you choose to have that).

The correct way to wire the plug can be found HERE . Then it's just a matter of wiring in the brake controller. I did my entire install in less than 2hrs (including a beer run).

Good to know, I was planning on doing this for safety. My surge brakes work ok, but I would like more stopping power....

you already have surge brakes on the trailer? You cannot use surge and electric brakes together. Sorry if I read that wrong.
