Remote start

Whats up, I was wondering if anyone on here has hooked up their ranger to a remote start/alarm system, but not just that. Have you done it with a manual transmission? and is that even possible? I want to get one, but not sure how it would all work (if they even make them for manuals)
Thanks

The manual tranny ones hook up to the e brake and you have to do some code to get it to work.

I think auto start is stupid in any car unless you live in Alaska.

i dont see why they would make them for manuals, you would have to park your truck in neutral and hope your parking break was on.

That's why I said they hook into your parking brake sensor and you have to push and release it a certain about of times to tell the auto start to work.

Most people leave their truck in gear, like me. I agree with Christian, it would only be worth it in Alaska, or where it is really cold in the winter.

my brother has is in his 01. it needs something special for the remote start to bypass the clutch in safety feature. its fine to just leave it in neutral with the parking brake. its nice though to get your air running before you go to your car. and scaring people in parking lots.

Bad habit. I had a friend that would do that and one day the parking brake cable snapped and his car rolled right into a Mercedes. If he had the car in gear all would have been good.

Even then, it doesn't take much to get a truck moving.

I have a buddy that put one on his mustang and its a 5 speed. It has a special setup on it that is basically a clutch bypass. It just makes it possible for the car to start without the clutch being pushed. You just want to make sure the vehicle is not in gear at the time, and is in neutral with the ebrake on. Otehrwise, vroom vroom lol.

I think he spent 650 altogether. But then again, he got a freaking awesome alarm on it that comes on when the wind blows too hard lol. Sometimes, I drive by it at like 1 in the morning and rev my engine to set it off lmao

I want an autostart more then anything here. It sucks getting into your truck when its 115 outside, 150 inside, and Ranger A/C doesn't power up that fast...Freakin sweat factory in that *****.

Ha, sounds like my alarm. POS. I am no longer allowed to set the alarm at night because the neighbors started filling complaints....

It can be done just rquires and extra module. To engage the auto start you have to come to a complete stop take vehicle out of gear, engage parking brake, then press the remote fob. If it isnt done exactly like this the remote start wont work. Its a PITA and not worth it unless you have really cold winter, like we do up here.

remote starter

i do know that if you do install a remote starter and it was NOT DEALER INSTALLED you could very possibly void the factory warranty. or an after market warranty. especially if something goes wrong with the elec. system. friend installed one and they told him at the dealer that it voided his warranty

in answer to the OP question yes it can be done. viper makes a 5701 or 5901 model alarm that has remote start and security, and it will work with manual transmissions actually it comes programed out of the box for manual tranny's, when i put them on auto cars i have to change it to auto tranny mode. and yes you have to do a certain sequence when you get out of you car (which is arm it and RS it, then kill it and walk away) so that when you come back to it, it will remote start but if your alarm is set off before you came back to it, it will not remote start until you reset it (which consists of disarming it and then doing the sequence again). the alarm also comes with a toggle switch to disengague RS when you dont wont it to work (like when parked on steep hills, or valet parking).

yes if you leave it in gear and try to RS it, it will jump forward.

however you can get any remote start alarm and make it work. its called a clutch bypass, this is basically just hooking up some relays so that the truck thinks that the clutch is pushed in when it tries to start (yes if it is in gear it will jump forward).

The punisher what year truck do you have? if it is a newer truck it will have a chip in the key and will require some sort of immobilizer bypass in order for it to start. i believe it is an xk04 or a PKALL that the new fords take. they are made by XpressKit and sold at most 12v shops or best buy but you can find them cheaper online. if there is no chip then it will start up no problem.

hope this helps

there is a law that is passed that makes the dealership have to prove that the aftermarket stuff (be it performance mods or eletronics) in your car caused the exact problem at hand for them to void your entire warranty. i cannot remember the name of the law right now though.

so if RS is installed and the tranny goes out then it is still covered under warranty.

My ranger has remote start but its an auto, when its -30 to -40 Celsius block remote start and block heaters are mandatory. I had a manual Jetta with remote start and in order to use it, you had to set it up when you parked the car. You had to put it in neutral and apply the handbrake with the engine still running, hit the button on the remote, it would make a noise, take the key out of the ignition, then use the button to turn the car off. It was a bit of hassle but once you got in the habit of doing it, it was much better than freezing your *** off.

the viper 5701 and 5901 has the block warming feature on it as well. if the temp drops below a certain temp then it will remote start automatically.

i had a toyota tercel standard transmission befor i got my ranger,it had a
remote starter name brand was Bulldog after you install it you have to cut
a purple looped wire on the module so it knows the difference between auto
and manual transmission.\,before you exit your car you have to put it in
neutral depress e brake press your key fob and exit your car within 30 seconds which is bullst, one morning in winter i forgot to do all this the car
tried to start it was in first gear made one hell of a dent on my brand new,
garage door installed the previous week, the funny part about it the car
tries three times to start,it will not start this way but the starter motor has
enough power to go about ten feet at a time, the purple wire was cut it was
not supose to do this cost me 800. dollars for a new door.

My friend was running one of those in his mk3 Jetta, which was also a manual. It worked really well. I want to replace my remote start, i want an alarm as well but don't want a pile of remotes so I am thinking about replacing it with Titan text start. So i can use it through my phone.

Thanks, that pretty much answered it haha.
Yes I have a newer model, 08, and I have already tried to get another spare made... I think they wanted close to $100 cause of the stupid chip... I mainly want it for the AC to make my truck cold before I get in in the summer (opposite to you guys up North) AND the PRIMARY reason I want one is because I want a good alarm system... and heck why not just throw it in right? lol
